It has been a long time since Devil May Cry 5 launched on PC and previous generation consoles, and, besides getting Vergil as a new playable character, the original versions of the game did not get any of the other improvements featured in the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S Special Edition release. However, some very interesting discoveries made by Reddit user Maarten PeTeRS suggest that CAPCOM may finally end its snubbing of the PC release.
The user recently took a good look at the SteamDB Update History page of Devil May Cry 5, highlighting that, since January 9, ChangeNumber changes, which indicate the possibility of builds getting pushed to a private depot being used to test a new build, have become almost daily, skipping only weekends. At times, changes are pushed multiple times a day, too, suggesting a level of backend activity that was absent until this year.
While the information above may not mean much, Maarten PeTeRS made an interesting observation. "The blank private ChangeNumber changes that were pushed to the Steam backend of "DmC: Devil May Cry" (also with privatebranches already activated) shows again the same pattern in inconsistent blank ChangeNumber changes being pushed in the months before its July 2025 patch materialized. Again, supporting this pattern in build-pushing behavior."
In light of the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 port of the game called Devil Hunter Edition, CAPCOM could be gearing up to release additional content not only on the PC version, which is, as mentioned above, lagging behind the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Special Edition, but on current-generation consoles as well, if the Nintendo Switch 2 port comes with some new features, although the Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition Nintendo Switch exclusive style and weapon switching features never made it to the other versions of the game.
While Maarten PeTeRS's analysis of the Devil May Cry 5 SteamDB update history is sound and matches what happened prior to the launch of the latest DmC: Devil May Cry update years after its previous one, too many times we have seen similar strong indications lead to nothing, so we have to take everything with a grain of salt.
However, with the game enjoying sustained strong sales and renewed popularity, it would make sense for CAPCOM to introduce new content in some form to already existing versions ahead of a new entry in the series, which is rumored to be a remake of the original 2001 game.
