New Eurofighter jet with advanced radar, more upgrades showcased.

A French aircraft maker has unveiled the new Eurofighter fighter jet. Airbus showcased the Tranche 4-standard Eurofighter for the German Air Force.

The company showcased the jet during the Airbus Defence Summit in Munich on May 20. Airbus has begun production of the single-seat jet at its Manching final assembly site.

However, reports revealed that the new version of the fighter jet is yet to be flow for the first time. German Air Force is expected to receive 38 Tranche 4-standard Eurofighters, according to reports.

Under Project Quadriga, Germany ordered 38 Tranche 4-standard aircraft in November 2020. Originally planned to be delivered between 2025 and 2030, 31 of the aircraft will be single-seaters, and seven will be two-seaters. The total also includes replacements for two Eurofighters lost in accidents, reported The War Zone.

The modernization effort is aimed at ensuring the German Air Force maintains strong operational capabilities for future NATO and national defense missions.

Technological improvements

The Tranche 4 Eurofighter incorporates several technological improvements over earlier variants. One of the most important upgrades is the installation of a modern AESA radar system, which significantly improves target tracking, surveillance range, and electronic warfare performance. The radar enhances the aircraft’s ability to operate in complex combat environments while improving pilot situational awareness.

Beyond radar improvements, the aircraft features updated avionics, enhanced mission systems, and a more advanced digital infrastructure. These upgrades are designed to support future weapons integration and evolving combat technologies over the coming decades. Military planners believe such improvements are essential as modern aerial warfare increasingly relies on networked operations and electronic combat capabilities.

Germany’s renewed focus on the Eurofighter program also comes during ongoing uncertainty surrounding Europe’s Future Combat Air System initiative. Since next-generation fighter development programs may take years before entering operational service, Berlin is strengthening its current fleet to avoid capability gaps and maintain readiness.

Aircraft 34+03 was rolled out at the company’s inaugural Defence Summit in Manching on 20 May 2026. These Tranche 4 aircraft will be equipped with the European Common Radar System (ECRS) Mk 1 Step 0 (essentially the same standard as the ECRS Mk 0 radar for Kuwait and Qatar, but with some modifications) before being upgraded to ECRS Mk 1 Step 1, ‘future-proof’ hardware, and updated software, reported Janes.
