Onebrief reduces army planning time from hours to minutes

Onebrief is a new AI-powered military workflow and planning platform used by the U.S. Army that could reduce hours of work to mere minutes.

The U.S. Army continues to modernize its command-and-control (C2) capabilities through the development of its Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) initiative, a program designed to replace fragmented systems with a unified, data-centric, and cloud-enabled architecture.

As modern warfare increasingly relies on rapid decision-making, real-time collaboration, and data integration across multiple domains, the Army is investing in technologies that can improve operational efficiency and coordination.

Onebrief, an artificial intelligence-powered military workflow platform, has emerged as a key component of this effort by serving as the planning layer within the NGC2 environment. It was named one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies for 2026.

“The Army is building the future of command through repeated, real-world experimentation, and Onebrief has been there at every step,” said Onebrief CEO Grant Demaree in a press release.

Recent testing with the 4th Infantry Division has demonstrated how the platform can significantly reduce planning times while improving collaboration among military personnel operating in challenging conditions.

A new AI-powered military platform

NGC2 is intended to streamline military planning by connecting multiple command-and-control systems into a single, integrated environment.

Rather than replacing existing software, Onebrief works alongside technologies developed by defense and technology companies, including Anduril, Palantir, Microsoft, Govini, Striveworks, Rune, Instant Connect Enterprise, and Research Innovations Inc. (RII).

The platform integrates intelligence, maneuver, fires, sustainment, protection, and mission command functions into one collaborative workspace, allowing operational plans to move more efficiently from planning to execution.

The platform recently played a significant role during the Army’s IVY STING experimentation series, where the 4th Infantry Division tested the capabilities of the evolving NGC2 architecture.

“Across the IVY STING series and into IVY MASS, our platform unified distributed teams, synchronized every warfighting function, and turned planning that once ran for hours into minutes, even in the most constrained environments,” as per Business Wire.

According to Onebrief, military planners reduced complex operational planning cycles from several hours to as little as 30 minutes while operating in displaced command posts with limited communications bandwidth. These exercises were designed to simulate the demanding conditions commanders could face during future military operations.

One of the most notable demonstrations occurred within the division’s Future Operations command post. Instead of relying on traditional static briefings, planners collaborated using live digital maps through Onebrief’s Broadcast and Whiteboard capabilities. Features such as digital laser pointers and two-way drawing tools allowed personnel to coordinate schemes of maneuver in real time. According to users participating in the exercise, planning activities that previously required approximately three hours could now be completed in just 30 to 40 minutes.

The future may be here

Throughout the experimentation process, Onebrief maintained engineering personnel on-site to gather user feedback and implement software improvements as exercises progressed. Company officials stated that the platform’s adoption spread organically as military planners introduced colleagues to newly developed workflows that improved communication and planning efficiency. Before being authorized for use within the NGC2 environment, the platform also completed extensive cybersecurity testing, including vulnerability assessments and application security reviews, ensuring compliance with Army security standards.

The Army plans to continue the IVY STING experimentation series through 2026 as preparations continue for Project Convergence Capstone 6, where the integrated NGC2 architecture is expected to serve as the primary command-and-control system for the 4th Infantry Division. If future testing continues to demonstrate similar gains in planning speed, coordination, and operational effectiveness, platforms such as Onebrief could play an increasingly important role in shaping the Army’s future approach to command and control in multi-domain operations, Rutland Herald concludes.
