Baykar, a Turkish drone maker, introduced its new long-range loitering munition called Mizrak on April 30. This came just before its first public appearance at a major defense event in Istanbul.

Mizrak has already passed live-fire tests and will be shown at the SAHA 2026 Defense, Aviation, and Space Industry Fair from May 5 to 9. This launch shows how quickly the company is moving into advanced autonomous strike technology.

Long endurance strike system

Mizrak is an intelligent loitering munition built for long missions. It can fly over 620 miles and stay in the air for more than seven hours. The drone can carry a heavy payload and is meant for deep-strike missions that need both endurance and precision.

The system can carry a 40-kilogram (about 88-pound) payload for high-impact missions. It uses onboard artificial intelligence to fly and hit targets autonomously, even without GPS. This means it can still work well if satellite navigation is blocked.

Airframe and launch flexibility

The drone can take off with a weight of up to 441 pounds and has a wingspan of about 13 feet. It can reach speeds of 115 miles per hour and fly up to 10,000 feet. These features make it suitable for both tactical and strategic missions.

Mizrak can launch from regular runways or from improvised sites. Its rocket-assisted takeoff enables it to operate in areas without standard infrastructure. This gives military teams more flexibility to deploy quickly in remote or contested areas.

Two mission configurations

Baykar offers Mizrak in two main versions. The heavy-strike model has two warheads, each weighing 40 kilograms (about 88 pounds), designed to cause maximum damage to tough targets.

The second version is a precision model with one 20-kilogram (about 44-pound) warhead, and a radio-frequency seeker. It is designed to hit specific emitters or high-value targets with accuracy.

Both versions can use electro-optical and infrared cameras. These sensors help with reconnaissance and surveillance, so operators can gather information before striking. Swapping payloads lets the drone handle more missions without big changes to the system.

Autonomous operation and network integration

Mizrak has an AI-powered autopilot and uses sensor fusion technology. This lets it process data from different sources and make decisions while flying. Visual positioning and onboard optical guidance help it find and hit targets even if GPS is blocked or jammed.

The drone also has anti-jamming features to keep control and communication working during electronic warfare. This makes it more reliable in contested airspace.

Mizrak can work with Baykar’s other drones, like the TB2, TB3, and Akinci. It uses digital data and video links for coordinated missions with other platforms. Its line-of-sight communication works over 50 miles, and satellite links can extend this for longer-range operations.

Mizrak is Baykar’s third loitering munition in under two months, after the K2 Kamikaze and Sivrisinek. All three will be shown together for the first time at SAHA 2026, showing the company’s growing range of unmanned strike systems.
