Airo unveils hybrid-electric rotary wing unmanned aircraft

Airo Group Holdings unveiled its full-scale autonomous aircraft at AUVSI XPONENTIAL 2026. The JX250/JC250 heavy-lift, hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) unmanned aircraft which is designed to address dual use application space and is engineered for operations in austere and infrastructure-limited environments. The program is currently advancing through the detailed design and engineering phase. The company expects the aircraft to enter commercialization and operational deployment beginning in 2027.

JX250/JC250 has a main rotor length of 5m, it employs hybrid-electric (comprising of engine, generator and batteries) propulsion systems which enables extended range and endurance without dependence on charging infrastructure.

The platform has a speed of 180 km/hr, a range of 320+ km, a payload of 150 kg, and an endurance of 14-18 hours (at loitering speeds). It is capable of beyond visual line of sight operations, is fully hover capable, can perform fully autonomous flight (with remote pilot supervision) and navigates using GNSS + INS technology.

The platform incorporates external/detachable cargo pod (with autolift) for carrying payloads. It makes use of Slowed-Rotor Compound (SRC) technology which unloads the rotor in forward flight and can autorotate or glide to a safe landing from any altitude or speed under total power loss. It also employs advanced vision systems and Detect-And-Avoid AI Technology.

Optimized for military cargo re-supply, remote cargo delivery, middle-mile logistics, oil and gas cargo supply, disaster relief and humanitarian missions

JX250

Leverages JC250 platform. It is configured for roles like intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), contested logistics, border and coastal surveillance, maritime patrol, disaster response (Search & Rescue) and situational awareness missions for defense and government customers. The platform is now projected to achieve over 1,000 miles of range and 16 hours of endurance in the ISR configuration, significantly expanding its operational reach for long-endurance missions.
