Chinese lithium producer Ganfeng Lithium announced that its 400 Wh/kg solid-state battery has completed engineering validation after reaching 1,100 charge cycles, showing potential for large-scale applications. The company also disclosed that its 500 Wh/kg-class 10Ah lithium-metal battery has entered small-batch production.
According to investor relations meeting minutes released by the company, Ganfeng described the cell as the world’s first 10Ah solid-state product to achieve this energy density.
The updates outline Ganfeng’s solid-state technology strategy, which simultaneously develops two distinct anode paths to address mass-production barriers. For the lithium-metal route, Ganfeng uses lithium-metal anodes to increase energy density.
The company’s second-generation semi-solid batteries utilize metallic lithium as the anode material, utilizing Ganfeng’s internal production of raw lithium-metal materials. For the silicon-based route, the company is expanding silicon-carbon anode products targeting energy densities between 320 and 480 Wh/kg.
Its 320 Wh/kg cell has reached 1,000 cycles, while a 480 Wh/kg configuration remains under development to meet different requirements for energy density and cycle life. Ganfeng stated these cells are intended for new energy vehicles, drones, electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, robotics, and consumer electronics.
Ganfeng’s development comes as China’s solid-state battery sector increases efforts toward pilot production and vehicle integration in 2026.
Earlier this month, Chinese startup Pure Lithium announced plans to expand its 500 MWh production capacity. Separately, manufacturers CATL and BYD received development awards at China’s inaugural Golden Lithium Awards.
Ganfeng is connected to several Chinese automakers pursuing solid-state programs through existing supply and cooperation agreements. Dongfeng has begun testing 350 Wh/kg solid-state battery vehicles in cold conditions, while Changan plans to test 400 Wh/kg solid-state batteries later this year.
Regarding raw materials, Ganfeng stated it expects global lithium resources to maintain a tight supply-demand balance through 2026 and 2027.
The company noted that a prolonged decline in lithium prices over the past few years reduced large-scale capital expenditure across the industry. Consequently, the release of new global lithium supply will be limited in the coming years.
These milestones follow Ganfeng’s 2025 announcement establishing a full-chain layout for solid-state batteries.
“In 2025, the company’s commercialization of solid-state batteries accelerated,” said the company in an investor relations meeting. “The company’s high-specific-energy and high-power eVTOL batteries were equipped on the Aerofugia AE200-100 aircraft model, completing the first phase of manned test flights and gaining a first-mover advantage in the low-altitude economy.”
“High-performance cell battery systems cover the 10kWh-1000kWh capacity range and can be widely used in heavy trucks, mining trucks, light trucks, light buses, public transit, sanitation, and other commercial vehicle models.”
The lithium giant is not alone in pushing the boundaries of solid-state innovation within China. Battery manufacturer Gotion High-Tech has also initiated the first road tests for its next-generation all-solid-state batteries.
The testing follows Gotion’s successful completion of China’s first fully localized 0.2 gigawatt-hour pilot line, signaling a broader industry shift from laboratory testing to real-world deployment.
