The U.S. Air Force’s Air Combat Command (ACC) has begun rolling out a secure messaging platform from Hypori as it expands mobile communications across its workforce. The implementation covers approximately 10,000 Airmen and marks the first deployment of Hypori Lyte for Secure Messaging within the command.

The rollout also extends the capability to existing Department of the Air Force (DAF) Hypori users, bringing the total number of users with access to nearly 27,000. The move reflects a broader effort to modernize military communications while reducing cybersecurity risks, simplifying device management, and giving personnel greater flexibility in how they stay connected during daily operations.

Rethinking mobile communications

As military operations become increasingly mobile, ACC sought a communication platform that allows personnel to stay connected without relying on dedicated government-issued devices. Traditional messaging systems often require multiple applications and place sensitive information on endpoint devices, creating additional security and administrative burdens.

Hypori Lyte takes a different approach by keeping mission data inside a secure virtual environment instead of storing it on smartphones or tablets. The design helps protect Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) while giving Airmen greater flexibility to communicate from approved personal or government devices.

Jared Shepard, CEO of Hypori, said the deployment builds on the Department of the Air Force’s Workspace Anywhere initiative. He said the new messaging capability enables secure and compliant communication while protecting mission data, supporting Continuity of Government operations, and preserving user privacy.

The implementation also reflects a growing shift toward device-agnostic communication, allowing personnel to securely access mission-critical tools without increasing the risk of data exposure or creating additional hardware requirements.

Zero-data security model

The implementation allows ACC to evaluate how a privacy-focused messaging platform can improve mission readiness across different operational environments. Officials will measure success through user adoption, lower device requirements, greater accessibility, and the platform’s ability to maintain strict security standards.

Instead of transmitting or storing sensitive information on endpoint devices, Hypori uses a zero-data architecture that keeps data inside a protected environment. That approach reduces the risk of data exposure while simplifying the user experience for Airmen who need secure access on the move.

The deployment also demonstrates how mobile communication can operate without relying on traditional device-centric security models. By separating data from the physical device, the platform aims to improve both operational flexibility and cybersecurity resilience while reducing the burden of managing multiple government-issued devices.

Supporting mission readiness

Military leaders see secure mobile communications as an essential part of maintaining operational readiness across distributed teams. Faster collaboration and reliable access to mission information have become increasingly important as personnel work across multiple locations and devices.

Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Phillips, Director of ACC’s Directorate of Cyberspace & Warfighting Communications, said commanders need communication tools that match the pace of modern operations. He said secure messaging strengthens mission readiness by allowing Airmen to collaborate confidently while on the move without being tied to a specific device.

Beyond supporting daily communications, the rollout serves as a real-world test of privacy-preserving mobile technology across a large military organization. The implementation also strengthens Hypori’s presence within the Department of the Air Force and provides a reference deployment for other defense organizations exploring secure, scalable, and flexible mobile communication technologies.
