Qualcomm's (QCOM) 40+ AI device push. (00:14) AMD tackles AI bottleneck. (01:18) Yum! (YUM) gives KFC a makeover. (01:57)
This is an abridged transcript.
Qualcomm (QCOM) is working on over 40 designs of new AI devices.
CEO Cristiano Amon told CNBC, these wearable tech devices include jewelry, earbuds with cameras, pins, and watches.
Amon said on “The Tech Download” podcast. “The principle is something that you wear, something [that] is with you all the time, something that can see the world around you, so you have context and have the ability for you to access an agent and talk to the agent,” Amon added.
The Qualcomm (QCOM) CEO said he is bullish on smart glasses, a category of product that could rival smartphones in terms of scale. Smart glasses shipments are now in the “order of multiple tens of millions” per year, he told CNBC.
AI agents are widely viewed as the next evolution of digital assistants such as Apple's (AAPL) Siri and Google's (GOOG) (GOOGL) Gemini. Technology companies are betting that these agents will be capable of handling more sophisticated, multi-step tasks across a range of apps and services on users' devices.
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) saw renewed investor confidence on Monday after it announced the acquisition of MEXT, a company focused on AI-driven memory optimization technology.
According to the company announcement, MEXT’s technology helps make flash storage behave more like DRAM. In simple terms, this will strengthen AMD's AI and data center portfolio. It will help customers deploy workloads more efficiently and at a lower total cost.
The market reacted positively to the deal. AMD shares jumped nearly ~7% to $547.26.
Yum! Brands (YUM) announced on Monday that the KFC brand is getting a refresh globally, with new menu innovation, modern restaurant design, and fresh branding.
The 74-year-old fried chicken chain is expanding the ways consumers can enjoy its main menu item, with new boneless offerings, bold sauces, and exciting beverages. The initiative is being called "chicken's next chapter".
KFC’s (YUM) broad goal is to maintain relevance with younger audiences and changing consumer tastes.
The KFC refresh will begin in the U.K. and Ireland before expanding across the U.S., Australia, and other global markets.
