Sunset Studios plans to launch a group of standing sets at the Sunset Las Palmas Studios lot in Hollywood catering to the fast-growing vertical format.

It’s partnered with short-form studio Knockout Shorts on the design and construction of the initial sets, which it called “versatile, production-ready environments … designed to meet the evolving needs of modern content creators” as microdramas and short-form video explodes. There was news earlier today that former executives from TikTok and Tribeca are working on America’s first microdrama festival for fall of 2026.

The sets include a pre-lit grid and a range of camera-ready environments including a courtroom, apartment, bar, restaurant, hospital and office. All are being repurposed from previous major studio productions so are sets that would otherwise be dismantled and sent to landfill – “reducing waste while extending the lifecycle of high-quality production assets,” Sunset said.

The sets are all located within an 8,000-square-foot sound stage. Productions will not require filming permits and will have access to the studio’s parking, production support space, on-site café and other services.

“These standing sets are about removing friction from the production process,” said Sunset Studios’ SVP of Sales, Sean Griffin. “Creators can walk onto a completely built, and fully lit high-quality set and start shooting right away, while also enjoying the infrastructure and support of a premier Hollywood studio lot.”
