Emmys: Shawn Hatosy To Be Submitted As Supporting Actor &...

Shawn Hatosy, who won his first Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for The Pitt Season 1 in 2025, will be submitted this year under the categories of Supporting Actor and Director for Season 2.

On the hit HBO Max medical drama from creator R. Scott Gemmell and producer John Wells, Hatosy plays Dr. Jack Abbot, the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center ER’s night shift attending physician and combat veteran. After a severe combat injury and six years of service, Abbot embarked on a career in emergency medicine. Grappling with the profound loss of his wife, he finds solace in his work, staying open about his emotions, which aids him and others in navigating life’s challenges.

The scope of his performance in Season 2 qualified him for a move from Guest Star to Supporting at the 2026 Emmys.

Abbot is close to the attending daytime physician at the center of The Pitt, Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Noah Wyle), with the former playing a pivotal role in the latter’s well-being in the Season 2 finale. When Dr. Robby finally admits to feeling suicidal, he and Dr. Abbot share a heart-to-heart that helps allay the danger, even if only temporarily. The men have found common ground and friendship through their work and understanding through their shared mental health struggles. Together, in the Season 2 finale, they survive another day and help a patient welcome her baby by emergency measures due to complications. The experience leaves both men with a big impression on the importance of life.

In Season 2 of The Pitt, Hatosy stepped behind the scenes to direct Episode 9 titled “3:00 p.m,” written by Cynthia Adarkwa. With systems still down, Dana (Katherine LaNasa) calls in an old friend with experience running a low-tech ER – but not before one of Javadi’s (Shabana Azeez) patient slips through the cracks. Meanwhile, Santos (Isa Briones) tends to the young victim of a fireworks explosion. Later, Robby makes Whitaker (Gerran Howell) an offer.

The Pitt received five Emmy Awards from 13 nominations in 2025 for Season 1, including Outstanding Drama Series, Wyle for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, LaNasa for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and Hatosy. Since then, the medical drama has been nominated and won a slew of other awards, including Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice, and a Peabody.

Hatosy’s additional notable TV credits include playing Detective Sammy Bryant on TNT’s Southland, baddy-you-love-to-hate Pope Cody on TNT’s Animal Kingdom, and Clayton Emerson in Fox’s Rescue: HI-Surf, and an episode of NBC’s ER as Willis Peyton, all titles executive produced by John Wells. He recently recurred in the hit CBS series Fire Country, and can next be seen starring opposite Olivia Colman and Brie Larson in Cry Wolf, FX‘s limited series created by Sarah Treem.

On the film side, he can currently be seen in theaters starring opposite Samara Weaving and Sarah Michelle-Geller in Searchlight’s Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. His big screen credits also include Inventing the Abbotts, The Postman, John Q, Alpha Dog, Public Enemies, and Unstoppable.
