EXCLUSIVE: Following the success of their Netflix thriller Apex, Baltasar Kormákur and Charlize Theron have found their next project to partner on as sources tell Deadline Kormákur is set to direct and produce Six Clean Kills for Universal Pictures, with Charlize Theron set to produce with an eye to star. The film is based on the unpublished Stan Parish novel, with Parish on board to adapt the script.
Plot details have not been released for the book and are being kept under wraps for the adaptation. Theron will produce through her Secret Menu first-look deal with Universal Pictures along with AJ Dix and Beth Kono. Kormákur will produce through Blueeyes Productions. Parish will executive produce.
Senior Vice President of Production Development Ryan Jones and Director of Production Development Christine Sun will oversee the project for the Studio.
Kormákur and Theron previously collaborated on Apex, which released on Netflix on April 24, 2026, and debuted No. 1 on their global English film list. The film has been number one on the Netflix Top Ten for two straight weeks and actually grew in viewership in its second week with 40.8 million viewers.
Theron has been loosely attached to the project for some time and following the Apex shoot, the two had been discussing what could be next after enjoying their time together. Six Clean Kills felt like the perfect follow-up though sources say the film is still in development as Theron is currently shooting the Amazon MGM Studios thriller Tyrant while Kormakur is currently in production on the Netflix pic The Big Fix starring Mark Wahlberg and Riz Ahmed.
Kormákur is represented by CAA and Range Media Partners. Theron is represented by CAA and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox. Parish is represented by CAA, The Book Group, and Jackoway, Austen, Tyerman, Wertheimer, Mandelbaum, Morris, Bernstein, Trattner, Auerbach, Hynick, Jaime, LeVine, Sample & Klein
