EXCLUSIVE: Sebastian De Souza (The Great) and Adam Godley (Down Cemetery Road) have inked deals for series regular roles in Conviction, Hulu and 20th Television’s new legal drama series starring Elisabeth Moss.
Character details are under wraps. Written by House and The Good Doctor creator David Shore, the show follows criminal defense attorney Neve Harper (Moss), a confident lawyer who finally has her shot at a career-making case: a high-profile murder where the husband is accused of killing his wife by setting their home on fire. But when a mysterious stranger begins blackmailing Neve, she is forced to compromise every legal, moral, and ethical obligation to gain an acquittal — or else risk her dark secrets being exposed.
The series is based on the 2023 book of the same name by Jack Jordan, who also has series adaptations of his novels Redemption (2024) and Deception (2026) in the works, under a development deal with 20th TV. Jordan is exec producing, along with David Shore and Erin Gunn via Shore Z Productions; Moss and Lindsey McManus via Love & Squalor Pictures; Warren Littlefield, Ann Johnson and Lisa Harrison via The Littlefield Co.; and Bert Salke via Co-Lab21.
Best known for his breakout roles in the hit Hulu series The Great and Normal People, plus the British teen drama Skins, De Souza most recently took on two films for Netflix: the rom-com The Life List, which was #1 for three weeks, and Chloe Domont’s erotic thriller Fair Play. Next up, he will star in the BritBox revival of Tommy and Tuppence, as well as Alex Marx’s film Queen of Fashion opposite Andrea Riseborough and Richard E. Grant. He is represented by Waring McKenna, Verve, and Anonymous Content.
Godley is known for work on shows like Succession, The Umbrella Academy, The Great, Breaking Bad and Suits, plus turns in films like The Theory of Everything, Love Actually, Nanny McPhee, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Currently, he can be seen in the Apple TV series Down Cemetery Road, alongside Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson, and Peacock’s espionage thriller The Copenhagen Test with Simu Liu. He is repped by Sue Latimer and Sarah Spahovic at ARG Talent and Chris Abramson of Abramson Entertainment Law.
