EXCLUSIVE: NFL star Cameron ‘Cam’ Heyward is the subject of a new documentary feature from Deon Taylor and Roxanne Avent Taylor’s Hidden Empire Sports Collective.

The untitled feature is being directed by Taylor (Black and Blue, The Intruder) and produced by Roxanne Avent Taylor, Ephraim Salaam, Deon Taylor as well as Cam Heyward via his newly launched production company, Iron 97 Productions.

Pittsburgh Steelers star defensive tackle Heyward is a seven-time NFL Pro Bowler, four-time First-Team All-Pro, and recipient of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.

The movie explores the deep relationship Cam had with his late father, NFL legend Craig ‘Ironhead’ Heyward, who died at age 39 of brain cancer when Cam was just a high school sophomore. Known for his brute strength and punishing style, Craig “Ironhead” Heyward made a name for himself as one of the best NFL running backs during the 90s. After his passing in 2006, Cam continued his dad’s legacy by getting drafted to the Steelers and quickly becoming one of the premier defensive linemen in the game. A few years later, Craig’s youngest son, Connor, joined Cam in Pittsburgh.

Featuring never before seen family archival footage and interviews, the movie is described as a father-son story at heart. Filming is currently underway.

Heyward’s path into movies follows his participation in the NFL Career Tour hosted by Hidden Empire Film Group and Skydance Sports, the professional development program that gives players insight into the entertainment industry and networking opportunities with film and TV executives.

Commented Heyward: “Hidden Empire has given me the tools to embark on a journey to share my story – and my family’s story. So many people have stories, but not everyone gets to see the full picture. With this documentary, we hope to connect all the pieces and show what that full picture really looks like.”

Said Taylor: “Cam is an extraordinary man in all facets of his life and a public role model in a time when they are becoming harder to find. He leads an inspirational and aspirational life and is inviting us in for a revealing feature centered on family that will simply hit different.
