Leonardo DiCaprio has wished Sir David Attenborough a happy birthday.

In a heartfelt post on Instagram, the Oscar-winning actor and environmental campaigner joined royalty and other stars in celebrating Attenborough’s 100 years on the planet.

“Happy 100th birthday to Sir David Attenborough — a storyteller, naturalist, and one of the most enduring champions of our shared planet,” DiCaprio wrote.

“For as long as I can remember, Sir David has opened windows into the natural world, bringing moments of wonder, beauty, and discovery into homes across the globe and inspiring generations to fall in love with life on Earth. Through his voice, many of us first came to witness the astonishing richness of biodiversity — and to understand both its fragility and its resilience.

“At 100 years old, his legacy is extraordinary. He has reshaped global awareness of conservation and reminded us, time and again, that protecting nature is not optional — it is fundamental to our future. His words continue to guide and challenge us.”

He added: “Thank you, Sir David, for a lifetime dedicated to protecting our planet.”

DiCaprio and Attenborough collaborated only recently on the Netflix film Gorilla Story. DiCaprio served as an executive producer on the documentary, which revisited Attenborough’s time spent with a group of gorillas for the 1970s BBC series Life on Earth.

Others paying tribute included King Charles III and Queen Camilla. “Wishing Sir David Attenborough a very happy 100th birthday. Enjoy your special celebration this evening!” they said, referencing a BBC event, titled David Attenborough’s 100 Years on Planet Earth.

The likes of Morgan Freeman and Judi Dench voiced a tribute compiled by the World Wide Fund for Nature, while David Beckham described him as a “national treasure.”

Earlier in the day, Attenborough said he had been “completely overwhelmed” by well-wishes. “I simply can’t reply to each of you separately, but I’d like to thank you all most sincerely for your kind messages, and wish those of you who have planned your own local events: have a very happy day.”
