EXCLUSIVE: Kristin Davis (Sex and the City) and Tig Notaro (Come See Me in the Good Light) have inked deals to join Beach Read, 20th Century Studios‘ adaptation of the New York Times bestselling novel from Emily Henry, which is shooting this month.
Character details are under wraps. The duo joins an ensemble led by Phoebe Dynevor and Patrick Schwarzenegger, which also includes Andie MacDowell and Kevin Bacon, as previously announced.
In Beach Read, idealistic romance novelist January Andrews (Dynevor) and cynical literary fiction writer Augustus “Gus” Everett (Schwarzenegger) — rival authors with dramatically opposing worldviews — have at least one thing in common: a serious case of writer’s block. When they unexpectedly find themselves living next door to each other in a small Lake Michigan beach town for the summer, they strike an unlikely bet to swap genres — and the lines between fiction and romance begin to blur.
Beach Read releases exclusively in theaters on May 7, 2027. Yulin Kuang, the co-writer of Netflix’s People We Meet on Vacation — another Henry adaptation — is directing the feature take from her own script, with Neal H. Moritz producing via his Original Films. Karina Rahardja is exec producing, with Sarah Shepard and Catherine Hughes overseeing the project for 20th. The literary affairs team, led by Clare Reeth, spearheaded efforts to land rights to the book.
An Emmy and Golden Globe nominee, Davis is best known for her role as Charlotte York in the Sex and the City franchise, including the recent HBO Max series, And Just Like That… Currently, she hosts the weekly Sex and the City-focused podcast, Are You a Charlotte?, with additional feature credits including Couples Retreat, Deck the Halls, The Shaggy Dog, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D. She is repped by Buchwald, Atlas Artists, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
Actor and comedian Notaro is a WGA, Emmy and multiple Grammy nominee who recently landed her first Oscar nomination for her work producing the lauded Apple doc Come See Me in the Good Light on poet Andrea Gibson. As an actor, recent credits include the Star Trek series Starfleet Academy and Discovery, Apple TV’s The Morning Show, and Zootopia 2. She is repped by Ayala Cohen Management, UTA for personal appearances, and Ziffren Brittenham.
