Mark Hamill revised a social media post featuring an image of a dead Donald Trump after the White House labeled the actor as “sick” and claimed that it was the type of rhetoric that has inspired assassination attempts against the president.

Hamill wrote on Bluesky, “Accurate Edit for Clarity: ‘He should live long enough to… be held accountable for his… crimes.’ Actually, I was wishing him the opposite of dead, but apologize if you found the image inappropriate. 💙-mh”

The White House rapid response account chided Hamill over an earlier post, which featured an AI image of Trump lying at a gravestone with the words, “Donald J. Trump. 1946-2024.” The message, “If Only” appeared over the image.

Hamill wrote, “If Only — He should live long enough to witness his inevitable devastating loss in the midterms, be held accountable for his unprecedented corruption, impeached, convicted & humiliated for his countless crimes. Long enough to realize he’ll be disgraced in the history books, forevermore. #don_theCON.”

The White House account called Hamill “one sick individual.”

“These Radical Left lunatics just can’t help themselves. This kind of rhetoric is exactly what has inspired three assassination attempts in two years against our President.”

Trump himself has used violent rhetoric against opponents, including reposting a video where a supporter says, “The only good Democrat is a dead Democrat,” per The Washington Post, and used the attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband as fodder for a mocking moment in a campaign speech.
