Lin-Manuel Miranda's 'Warriors' Musical Adaptation Sets B...
Greg Evans · 2026-06-24 · via Deadline

Warriors, the new musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis based on the 1979 cult classic film The Warriors will make its Broadway debut next spring, producers announced today.

Warriors will begin previews March 2027 at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, with an official opening in April. It will be Miranda’s first new full-length original stage musical since his mega-hit Hamilton.

Directed by Jenny Koons and co-directed/choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, Warriors follows a fictitious New York City gang from Coney Island to the Bronx and back when they are framed for the murder of respected gang leader Cyrus.

Based on the Paramount Pictures motion picture and the novel The Warriors by Sol Yurick, the new musical has a twist: The street gang that provides the title is now a female gang.

Watch on Deadline

Miranda and Davis are writing the book, music and lyrics.

“With Warriors, we take a fateful journey through New York City full of heart and grit as our characters fight to survive,” the writing duo said. “Musicalizing such a vibrant world for the concept album has been a thrill, and now we’re coming out to play on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne. We can’t wait.”

The concept album released on October 18, 2024, featured a cast including Ms. Lauryn Hill, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Marc Anthony, Billy Porter, Ghostface Killah, RZA, Colman Domingo, Cam’ron, Kim Dracula, and more. The album was executive produced by Nas and produced by Mike Elizondo.

Casting for the Broadway production has not been announced.

Broadway producers are Thomas Kail, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Luis A. Miranda, Jr. and Jeffrey Seller, with scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Jason Crystal, projection design by Hana S. Kim, music supervision by Kurt Crowley, and orchestrations by Kurt Crowley, Scott Wasserman and Mike Elizondo.

Additional announcements about the Broadway production, including casting and the full creative team, are forthcoming.

The film, directed by Walter Hill, starred Michael Beck, James Remar, Deborah Van Valkenburgh, Marcelino Sánchez, David Harris, Tom McKitterick, Brian Tyler, Dorsey Wright, Terry Michos, David Patrick Kelly, Roger Hill, Edward Sewer, and Lynne Thigpen.
