Vice President JD Vance‘s guest spot on ABC’s The View last week drew 3.3 million viewers, giving the show its largest audience since 2024.

Per the network, the viewership was the largest since Nov. 6, 2024, the day after the presidential election. It also was the second most-watched telecast since Jan. 11, 2021.

Vance was on the show for nearly the full hour on June 16 to promote his book Communion, but he also defended Donald Trump and the record of the administration.

On Monday, ABC started airing spots during commercial breaks calling on viewers to comment on an FCC proceeding. The agency, led by Trump’s appointed chairman, Brendan Carr, is asking for public comment on whether The View is a “bona fide” news program, and exempt from equal time requirements.

The equal time regulation requires broadcasters that feature political candidates to offer equal time to rivals, if requested. The network says that the FCC found it exempt in 2002, but Carr issued new guidance in January warning that TV talk shows may not be “bona fide” news. The Trump White House has criticized the show, and the president has called on the network to fire late night host Jimmy Kimmel.

For the week, The View averaged 2.94 million viewers, up 22% from the same period a year before. It posted 244,000 in women 25-54 and 189,000 women 18-49. The average was based on the Monday and Tuesday shows, as the Wednesday to Friday telecasts were excluded from the data.
