Apple TV is set to reach a sports production technology milestone on Saturday, streaming a live Major League Soccer match shot entirely with iPhones.
The exclusive use of iPhone 17 Pros to capture the LA Galaxy-Houston Dynamo FC match at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, CA, builds on an earlier experiment with Major League Baseball. A 2025 MLB game streamed on Apple TV featured select portions shot via iPhones, but the soccer game will be the first full sporting event to rely completely on the devices.
Apple said the broadcast will “deliver the pristine video quality fans expect, alongside dynamic new perspectives that bring viewers closer to the action, made possible by the small form factor of iPhone.” The company said it received “strong fan response” to the baseball telecast, and has integrated it as a production element in other MLS broadcasts.
The tech giant and the league are collaborating on the iPhone implementation, which coincides with the final regular-season game before the MLS pauses during the playing of the FIFA World Cup. Hosted in North America, the 2026 World Cup features an expanded field of 48 countries and will run from June 11 to July 19.
Apple and the MLS formed a partnership in 2022 to deliver exclusive streams of league games for 10 years, initially on a dedicated subscription tier but now for all Apple TV subscribers.
Apple TV, which launched in 2019, has been ramping up in sports, adding exclusive global rights to Formula 1 this year. The service remains an outlier in the streaming sector as an ad-free general entertainment offering, though live sports broadcasts do feature ads.
