EXCLUSIVE: Netflix’s teen psychological drama series Bet has added a pop star to its cast.

“Icy Grl” star Saweetie has joined the show alongside series star Miku Martineau as the second season of the show starts production in Toronto.

Bet follows the students at a boarding school for the global elite, where underground gambling determines the school’s hierarchy. When Yumeko, played by Martineau, a mysterious transfer student arrives, her gambling prowess puts her in the crosshairs of the powerful Student Council, while her secret quest for revenge threatens to upend the school’s status quo entirely.

It’s unclear what character Saweetie is playing. It is her latest acting role, having previously starred in Starz’s BMF.

The live-action series is based on Japanese manga Kakegurui. It became a hit on Netflix when it launched in May 2025 with 2.4M views in its first week. The show spent three weeks on Netflix’s English-language top ten and reached the top ten in 77 countries.

It marks Saweetie’s latest gig for Netflix; the “Tap In” singer hosted sex-positive comedy special titled Sex: Unzipped in 2021.

“There’s a psychological edge to the world of Bet that immediately brought me in and the character instantly called to me. The fact it’s rooted in manga, this Japanese storytelling tradition that’s been shaping street culture and fashion for years, is what sealed it. Bet, like me, doesn’t play it safe,” Saweetie said.

Bet also stars Ayo Solanke, Eve Edwards, Clara Alexandrova, Hunter Cardinal, Anwen O’Driscoll, Aviva Mongillo, Ryan Sutherland, Laura Afelskie, Rami Khan and Bryn Samuel.

Produced by Boat Rocker Studios, the series was developed by Simon Barry, who directs alongside Jacquie Gould and James Genn. Barry also exec produces alongside Boat Rocker Studios’ Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier, Jon Rutherford and Nick Nantell.

It marks the latest Netflix series filmed in Toronto after Vladimir, Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, Wayward and the upcoming season of Ginny & Georgia.
