EXCLUSIVE: Nellie Reed, who most recently ran the scripted TV division of Liz Garbus and Dan Cogan’s Story Syndicate since its 2023 launch, is launching a production company of her own, Short Stack Productions, which has signed an exclusive TV overall deal with indie studio A24.

Under the pact, Short Stack will develop ongoing and limited series for A24 which Reed will executive produce. The company’s first hire is coordinator Sophie Speciale.

Prior to starting a scripted TV division for Story Syndicate, Reed did the same for Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson’s Color Force, and Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin’s Free Association.

Reed is the latest TV executive to launch their own production company with a deal at A24, following Disney’s Peter Rice and Fifth Season’s Joe Hipps.

During her tenure at Story Syndicate, the company landed a straight-to-series order at Netflix following a bidding war for an adaptation of Jess Walter’s bestselling novel So Far Gone, which Reed had brought in, with writer Mark Bomback, as well as a premium development deal at Apple TV, also after a bidding war, for a limited series about the trial of socialite Claus von Bülow from Adolescence co-creator Jack Thorne. Reed is an executive producer on both shows, and will also remain involved in other projects she had put into development at Story Syndicate.

While serving as head of TV for Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson’s Color Force, running their exclusive deal with FX, Reed developed and produced two installments of American Crime Story, the Emmy-winning The Assassination of Gianni Versace and Impeachment, as well as Y: The Last Man, Class of ’09, Clipped, American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, and Say Nothing.

Reed also ran television for Tatum and Carolin’s Free Association through their first look deal with MRC. She got her start in development at David S. Goyer’s Phantom Four Films where she oversaw both TV and film. Reed is repped by WME and attorney Eric Suddleson.
