EXCLUSIVE: In a reunion of Sirens stars, Meghann Fahy (Sirens) has been set to star alongside Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) in feature The Girlfriend from director Natalie Morales, XYZ Films and 21 Laps.

Filming is due to get underway June 29th on the feature which has a script from Howerton and Rich Appel, known for his work on The Simpsons, Family Guy and other TV hits.

The logline reads: “Claire gives up her perfect New York City life and moves to Alabama for her husband Elliot’s (Howerton) dream job. Seeing her isolated, friendless, and unhappy, Elliot does what any loving husband would do: he secretly hires an escort (Fahy) to be her new best friend.”

Pic is being made in association with BuzzFeed Studios with backing from IPR.VC and Paris-based Vixens with support from the European Union under the InvestEU Fund. XYZ is handling global sales, with WME co-repping domestic.

Shawn Levy and Dan Levine are producing for 21 Laps, along with Jill Howerton and Glenn Howerton from Zoe Knife Productions, Rich Appel from Persons Unknown, Guy Danella and Nick Spicer from XYZ Films, Richard Alan Reid from Buzzfeed Studios and Lee Kim.  

Executive producers include Josh Kunau, Maxime Cottray, Aram Tertzakian, Andrea Scarso, Timo Argillander, John Straley, R. Wesley Sierk, Gary Farkas, Clement Lepoutre, Olivier Muller and Bertrand Perrodo. Emily Feher from 21 Laps will also have a producing role.

Fahy scored Emmy nominations for The White Lotus and Netflix series Sirens and recently starred in Universal-Blumhouse thriller Drop. She stars opposite Rose Byrne in the Peacock limited series The Good Daughter, premiering in November.

Howerton is co-creator and stars in long-running FX comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and starred with Fahy in hit Netflix limited series Sirens. He garnered an Independent Spirit Award nomination for his performance in XYZ’s BlackBerry.

Morales is known for acting in Grey’s Anatomy, The Beast Within and The Morning Show. She has directed features including Plan B and Language Lessons.

Three-time Emmy winner Appel has served as the co-showrunner and executive producer of Family Guy for the past 14 years.
