Prime Video is going back to Barry’s Bay.
Following the success of the streamer’s television adaptation of Carley Fortune’s best-seller Every Summer After — titled Every Year After in show form — a second season has been given the go ahead. The announcement was made Saturday at Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest. Source material that will serve as the basis is Fortune’s sequel book of sorts, One Golden Summer, which focuses on Charlie Florek’s (Michael Bradway) love story. Season one set up for Charlie to meet Alice with a cliffhanger in the finale.
One Golden Summer is told from the perspective of Alice Everly, a photographer who took a key shot of Charlie, Sam and Percy in the banana boat the summer she was 17. She finds her way back to Barry’s Bay to help take care of Nan, her grandmother, and falls for Charlie in the process. The important photo, which Alice titles “One Golden Summer” can be seen hanging in Charlie’s boss’s office in the Every Year After finale. Set to the Mumford & Sons song “Woman,” he looks over the photograph before what could be a panic or heart attack sends him stumbling to the floor. Readers of One Golden Summer will know what that’s about.
The first season of Every Year After stars Sadie Soverall as Persephone ‘Percy’ Fraser and Matt Cornett as Sam Florek, Charlie’s younger brother. Michael Bradway portrays Charlie, and Elisha Cuthbert plays the Florek brothers’ mom Sue. Fortune’s Every Summer After follows the second chance romance of Percy and Sam, who go from friends to lovers over several summers spent in Barry’s Bay beside the lake. Season 1 combines dual timelines to chronicle how Percy and Sam’s friendship grew to be more, but also how everything fell apart.
The series also stars Aurora Perrineau as Percy’s best friend of adulthood, Chantal; Abigail Cowen as her childhood best friend Delilah and Joseph Chiu as Sam’s childhood best friend Jordie.
Amy B. Harris will continue to serve as showrunner. She executive produces alongside Fortune, Lindsey Liberatore, Amy Rardin, John Stephens and Grace Gilroy.

Fortune’s novel This Summer Will Be Different in development for a TV series at Netflix, and the streamer also has Meet Me At The Lake in development with Archewell Productions.
