EXCLUSIVE: Writer and director Anu Valia has signed with CAA for representation.

A graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Valia’s short film Lucia, Before and After won the U.S. Fiction Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017.

Her TV directing credits include Steve Carell’s HBO series Rooster, Apple TV+’s hit Shrinking, from Bill Lawrence, Jason Segal, and Brett Goldstein, Disney+ and Marvel’s She-Hulk, FX’s Adults, HBO Max’s Sex and the City sequel series And Just Like That…, the Ted Danson-starrer A Man on the Inside at Netflix, and Apple TV’s The Afterparty. Additionally, she is the executive producer and pilot director for Apple TV+’s Big Door Prize, which ran for two seasons.

For the big screen, her debut feature, We Strangers, premiered at SXSW in 2024 and won top prizes at various other film festivals. We Strangers follows Rayelle Martin (Kirby), a commercial cleaning woman in Gary, Indiana, who stumbles into a new job cleaning the homes of several rich, suburban families. While working, she tells one small lie that spins out of control.

Valia is the inaugural recipient of the Blackwell Prize in Filmmaking in partnership with the University of West Georgia. She is part of the Reframe Rise 2025-2026 cohort and was named The Gotham’s Series Creator to Watch in 2025.
