Apple TV has greenlighted a comedy series from creators Liz Heldens (Will Trent) and Matt Ward (Best Medicine), with Elizabeth Banks (Miniature Wife) set to star and executive produce.

The untitled half-hour project, fka We’re All Gonna Die, comes from 20th Television where Will Trent co-developer, executive producer and co-showrunner Heldens is under an overall deal. It had been set up at Apple TV since at least last fall. The pickup follows 20th TV recently securing a California tax credit for it.

The series is set to begin production in Los Angeles this year. It brings Banks back to the half-hour comedy genre where she had memorable recurring roles on Scrubs and 30 Rock.

The untiled Apple comedy centers on Heidi (Banks) who, fresh off a messy divorce, sets out to secure a lively second act for herself and her kids. But when she stumbles into coordinating her father’s retirement community sex dates, Heidi is forced into an unlikely alliance with his girlfriend’s perpetually single son.

Heldens and Ward serve as executive producers and showrunners. Banks executive produces alongside Max Handelman and Krissy Wall through her Brownstone Productions banner. Jonathan Krisel (Adults) will direct the pilot and serve as executive producer. Quinn Haberman executive produces alongside Heldens for Selfish Mermaid, and Jason Winer and Jon Radler will executive produce for Small Dog Picture Company.

Banks currently stars and executive produces the Peacock series The Miniature Wife and before that she starred in and exec produced the Prime Video limited series The Better Sister.

Heldens previously created the 2009 NBC medical drama Mercy and 2013 mystery drama Deception and co-created the network’s summer series Camp. She also worked on Friday Night Lights. This marks her first half-hour series.

Ward has a couple of half-hour comedy comedies under his belt, including My Name Is Earl and Suburgatory. His most recent credits include Fox’s Best Medicine and The Big Leap and CBS’ Madam Secretary.
