EXCLUSIVE: Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek) and Theo Rossi (The Penguin) have wrapped lead roles opposite Jenna Laurenzo (Lez Bomb) in her sophomore feature, Maid of Dishonor.
Shot in Los Angeles, Maid of Dishonor is a rom-com following Caroline (Hampshire), who in moving back to the States after two years abroad with her surprise fiancé, Rick (Rossi), asks her best friend and ex-girlfriend, Amanda (Laurenzo), to be her Maid of Honor, forcing them to navigate a wild and hilarious rollercoaster of love and friendship as Amanda tries to win back the love of her life.
For Laurenzo, the film comes on the heels of Lez Bomb, exec produced by Bobby Farrelly, which earned the Jury Award for Best Film at Geena Davis’ Bentonville Film Festival.
Laurenzo directed from her own script, with Diana Hull producing through her Hull Five Studio alongside Stephanie Bridger, as well as Mike Karz and Bill Bindley from Gulfstream Pictures. Rossi, Hampshire and Stella Lim are EPs on the film, whose cast also includes Caitlin Reilly (Hacks), Jonica Booth (Rap Sh!t), Adam Shapiro (The Bear), Lindsey Normington (Margo’s Got Money Troubles), Peter S. Kim (A Nice Indian Boy), Michael Strassner (The Baltimorans), Catherine McCafferty (Crush), Nathan Lee Graham (Mid-Century Modern) and Kevin Pollak (Couples Weekend).
“We are so thrilled to have wrapped this incredible project with such a phenomenal cast and crew,” Laurenzo told Deadline. “This story is deeply personal to me, and I can’t wait for audiences to experience it. It’s a ride.”
Best known for starring in the breakout Canadian comedy Schitt’s Creek, Hampshire has most recently been seen starring opposite twin Vince Vaughns in 20th’s Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, which released on Disney+ and Hulu on March 27. Upcoming, she’ll be seen in Marvel’s VisionQuest, premiering on Disney+ on Oct. 14. She is repped by Creative Drive Artists, Paradigm, Atlas Artists and Felker McGinnis & Ryan.
Known for his work in titles like The Penguin and Emily the Criminal, Rossi is coming off the SXSW premiere of The Saviors, a darkly comedic thriller from Kevin Hamedani, where he stars opposite Adam Scott, Danielle Deadwyler and Nazanin Boniadi. He is repped by Paradigm, Entertainment 360, and Schreck Rose Dapello.
Prior to her feature debut, Laurenzo created the short-form series Girl Night Stand, which amassed over 44 million views on YouTube and is currently in development as a feature. As an actress, she appears in Peter Farrelly’s Academy Award-winning Green Book. She is currently in development on her next feature with the producers of Maid of Dishonor and is repped by Innovative Artists, Echo Lake Entertainment and Schreck Rose Dapello.
