New Passport Design Featuring Trump's Face Unveiled by State Department
Connor Greene · 2026-04-29 · via TIME

The State Department on Tuesday revealed a new passport design that includes an image of President Donald Trump, marking the latest move the Administration has made to feature Trump on items intended to commemorate the country’s 250th anniversary—as well as attaching his name and face to a broader array of federal buildings and programs.

Mockups of the passport design shared with TIME show a blue and white image of the President’s face in the middle of the text of the Declaration of Independence, with Trump’s signature, in gold, below. Another page of the passport includes an image from John Trumbull’s famous 1819 “Declaration of Independence” painting, which depicts the founding fathers gathered for the signing of the document.

"As the United States celebrates America's 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed U.S. Passports to commemorate this historic occasion,” State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said in a statement to TIME. “These passports will feature customized artwork and enhanced imagery while maintaining the same security features that make the U.S. Passport the most secure documents in the world."

There will be no extra fee for the limited edition passports, according to a department official. “The new designs will be available for any American citizen who applies for a passport when the rollout happens and will continue for as long as there is availability,” the official added. They refuted earlier reporting that only 25,000 passports would be produced, but did not specify how many would be made available.

“The passports will only be available at the Washington Passport Agency,” the official added.

The news of the passports was first reported by The Bulwark. The designs were first published by Fox News.

The front and back of the new passports will also differ somewhat from the current design. The front cover now reads “Passport” in gold text above a rendering of the image of a bald eagle from the center of the seal of the United States, with “United States of America” in smaller text beneath it. The new design will flip the order of the wording, so that “United States of America” will be featured larger at the top of the cover and “Passport” will be lower down.

The back of the passport will display an image of the 1777 version of the American flag, with “250” inscribed at the center of 13 stars representing the original colonies.

An official confirmed to TIME that the passports’ release is expected to align with the U.S.’s 250th anniversary in July.

“COMING SOON: Limited-edition U.S. passports to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence,” the State Department wrote on its X account later on Tuesday. The department shared an illustration in the post that included an image of the new design of the front cover of the passport, a race car emblazoned with the stars and stripes, the Capitol, the Washington Monument, and what appears to be a shirtless man in a fighting stance with a sparring wrap on his hand.

The passport design comes amid a larger planned celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday, including other commemorative items—among them gold coins that also feature an image of Trump—and events including a Grand Prix race on the National Mall and an Ultimate Fighting Championship match-up on the White House south lawn.

Beyond the 250th anniversary celebration, Trump has also moved to stamp his name and face on government programs and properties more widely during his time as President, attaching his moniker to everything from a planned class of battleships to the Kennedy Center and impressing images of his face onto national parks passes and new Trump “gold card” visas.
