House Republican leadership abruptly pulled a scheduled vote this Thursday to rein in President Trump’s military campaign in Iran after it became evident that they did not have the votes to defeat it.

The measure would have marked Congress’ first successful reproof of Trump’s Iran war effort after multiple attempts by Democrats to restrict his war powers.

GOP leaders plan to bring the war power measures back up when the chamber returns from its week-long Memorial Day recess. 

While leaders passed a new legislative act to establish a women’s museum for 45 minutes as they struggled to whip votes against the war powers resolution after losing bipartisan support.

On the other hand, Democrats implied an aggressive move when White House Committee ranking member Jim McGovern challenged the presiding officer for keeping the voting clocks open.

The overcoming past attempts to constrain Trump’s war powers regarding Iran fell short.

The House was expected to vote on the resolution, but GOP leaders delayed it in the wake of attendance challenges within their conference. Fitzpatrick told Axios on Wednesday: “We don't report to any party or any person here in DC.”

It has been observed that some Republicans have pointed to the War Powers Act 60-day deadline as a crucial turning point.

The White House argues that the War power no longer applies because of the ceasefire with Iran.
