It appears that Michael will soon push Bohemian Rhapsody to the second position by becoming the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time.

Variety reported that Michael, which follows the early life of Michael Jackson, has now accumulated $788,047,189 worldwide after earning $28.5 million from all across the globe over the weekend.

The film is about the King of Pop’s fame before facing allegations that he s******* abused children. Jaafar Jackson played the lead role along with an ensemble cast, including Miles Teller, Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Colman Domingo, KeiLyn Durrel Jones, Teresa Palmer, Jessica Sula, and many more.

It is pertinent to mention that Michael, which opened in the United States on April 24, 2026, under the banner of Lionsgate Films, has yet to be released in Japan.

It is being speculated that Japan might play a key role in achieving the film’s first position at the box office, nudging Bohemian Rhapsody to the second spot.

The film about Freddie Mercury, the British singer and songwriter who achieved fame as the lead vocalist and pianist of the rock band Queen, grossed $911 million internationally, which Michael can surpass but it totally depends on how the Japanese audience receives it.
