Iran has called on BRICS nations to condemn what Tehran describes as ongoing violations of international law by the United States and Israel, as tensions in the Middle East continue.

Speaking to members of the BRICS+ bloc, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said countries in the Global South must stand together against Western influence.

“The West’s false sense of superiority and ⁠immunity must be shattered by ⁠all of us,” Araghchi said.

The Iranian minister praised the country’s response to the recent conflict and said Tehran would not back down under pressure from Western powers.

“In the face of horrific violence, the Iranian people have firmly and proudly stood up for themselves. Did we retreat from our ideal of independence? Did we surrender to the will and whims of imperial power? The answer is clear: We did not and never will,” he added.

Araghchi also argued that Iran’s struggle represented a wider fight for emerging economies and developing nations.

“This all matters to the BRICS+ group of countries because the battle Iran has fought is in defence of all of us – of the new world that we are building together.”

The BRICS group includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.
