Europe’s prominent artificial intelligence firm, France’s Mistral AI officially announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Vienna-based Emmi AI. 

The primary motive behind this revelation is that the firm is striving to optimize its services for industrial clients across Europe. Emmi AI, a tech company, has reportedly raised 15 million euros in Austria’ largest funding round in 2025. It specializes in models proficient at dealing with difficult matters comprising airflow, heat transfer and material stress.

According to Reuters, the deal seeks to advance its foundational approach around its European client base in line with engineering and manufacturing tasks. Industrial AI is playing a crucial role in re-industrialization. 

The European Commission named manufacturing among the AI-pivotal sectors as part of a major push to mitigate the bloc’s reliance on US and Chinese technologies.

It is crucial to note that Mistral designs solutions revolving around the client's need, building a compound AI system where one might observe production for robotic arm, logistics data while operating collaboratively.

The company demonstrated its work with ASML where Mistral-equipped EUV lithography machines now use foundational models to determine streamlining, diagnostic and mitigating waste of costly silicon wafers.

In this connection, ASML CFO Roger Dassen said: “You just save 10 hours of downtime on very expensive equipment.”

The company has clarified that purpose-built models are trained on company-provided data, aiming to outshine mass-market solutions trained on general datasets, underlining Europe’s century of manufacturing expertise as a prime advantage. 

The recent acquisition will work to strengthen Mistral’s position as a significant partner for manufactures in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, and semiconductors.
