Prince Harry, the founder of the Invictus Games Foundation, has received a disappointing news from Australia nearly a month after his trip with Meghan Markle.

According to reports, the funding for Invictus Australia‘s national sport and rehabilitation programs has been axed in this year’s federal budget.

Invictus Australia is a veteran support charity that connects serving and former Australian personnel to sporting communities across the country to help their recovery, wellbeing and transition to civilian life.

Last month, Prince Harry also visited alumni from Team Australia in Sydney with his wife Meghan.

The Australian government previously earmarked $9m over three years for Invictus Australia in the 2022-23 budget.

It was ultimately not renewed in the 2026-27 budget handed down by Treasurer Jim Chalmers on Tuesday.

YouTuber Shauna Kay took to X, formerly Twitter handle, and tweeted: “I can confirm, with some satisfaction, that the Australian Government has now withdrawn all public funding from Invictus Australia. From here on, they’ll need to rely on private and corporate donors to fill the gap.”

She added “And it does raise an uncomfortable question: Did Invictus Australia’s very visible support role in the Sussexes’ recent pseudo‑royal tour finally force scrutiny of its priorities? A growing and vocal public has been asking where the money goes, how it helps veterans, and why transparency is always promised but never delivered. Vague assurances don’t cut it anymore.”
