A follow-up remark amplified the conversation: "Sometimes grown men send me their Instagram profiles, and I'm like, 'Are you transitioning or what?'"

With these posts receiving 29,000 likes and 3,400 reposts in such a short time, people were divided into two categories, one that thought that it was amusing and another that felt that this was justifying negative stereotypes about the people using the app.

His comments on Instagram were taken as an opinion on its nature rather than the people using the app. On Instagram, they argued, is the presentation of images and a personal brand. In comparison, X has an approach that revolves around debates and commentary.

Critics pushed back harder, saying Instagram now kind of works like a hub for journalists, artists, businesses, and creators across all demographics. And if you reduce it to just an aesthetic performance, you miss how the platform actually operates in professional and creative settings.

The remark, they went on, basically just reinforced old gender stereotypes, and it also brushed off visual communication as if it were naturally shallow or less important.
