Stephen Colbert sang praises of his wife, Evelyn McGee Colbert, for trusting him after he made a shocking confession regarding his crush on an A-list actress.

The 62-year-old American comedian and writer chatted with PEOPLE magazine about his wife of 32 years, admitting that he still “can’t believe” that she is with him.

He told the outlet, “I go like, ‘I can't believe Evie McGee's going out with me’ because I mean, we grew up in the same town. Like, wow. Evie McGee. I must be doing okay.”

Colbert went on to reflect on his first date with her, saying, “Day after Christmas, Feast of Saint Stephen, so that's auspicious.”

“And then we didn't see each other again until February, I think it was around February 11th or February 9th. I know that Monday was the day before Mardi Gras, and I knew I would not see her again until Good Friday, and so I gave up Evie McGee for Lent,” he shared.

Gushing over his wife’s beauty, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug star said, “Look how pretty she is! She's great company. I try to be equally good company. I don't think I am as good company as she is.”

For those unaware, the couple, who first crossed paths in 1990, got engaged in 1992 and married in October 1993.

It is pertinent to mention that Stephen Colbert and Evelyn McGee Colbert share three children together: daughter Madeleine, 30, and sons Peter, 28, and John, 24.
