15-Second Summary

Staying on top of innovations is one of the most valuable, but time-consuming, parts of market intelligence work. With the rapid pace of innovation, staying up-to-date and ahead of your competitors can seem like an impossible task for teams already under-resourced. Analysts need to sift through thousands of articles, press releases, and reports to catch early signals like new patents, prototypes, and pilot projects. To make this process faster and more scalable, we’re releasing a new set of AI Models purpose-built to automatically flag key indicators of technological & scientific innovation. These include:

  • Innovation
  • New Patents
  • Full-Scale Prototype
  • Type Certification
  • Clinical Trial Phase I
  • Clinical Trial Phase II
  • Clinical Trial Phase III
  • New Proof of Concept
  • Pilot Project

These AI Models help analysts spot breakthroughs earlier, monitor competitors more effectively, and spend less time searching and more time analyzing. In this article, we’ll explore what’s new and show you how to make the most of these innovation AI Models.

More signal, less noise, a peek behind the scenes

Using Feedly’s AI Models makes your research 12x more relevant than traditional keyword-based search. While most search engines rely on exact keyword matches, Feedly AI goes deeper. It reads thousands of articles across the web and understands the underlying concepts, not just the words on the page. That means even if a keyword isn’t explicitly mentioned, Feedly AI can still recognize when an article is relevant and flag it. The result? Less noise, more insight, and faster access to the information that actually matters.

Innovation

Our Innovation AI Model flags instances of the development or application of new ideas, products, services, or processes that improve efficiency, solve problems, or create value. For market intelligence analysts, detecting innovation signals is critical to identifying shifts in a competitor's strategy, emerging disruptors, or changes in industry direction. This model helps surface early signs of innovation by scanning and flagging relevant mentions across a wide range of sources.

Prototype

Our new Full Scale Prototype AI Model was created to flag instances of an early version or sample of a product, typically built to test a concept or process. Spotting prototypes allows you to track how close a company is to bringing a new product to market. By identifying mentions of prototypes in articles, reports, or press releases, you get an early look into product development pipelines and potential future offerings.

In this example, we are choosing to pull from the Press Release source bundle. Remember, in Feedly, you have the flexibility to pick your research sources. For more information on Press Release sources, check out this blog: Turn press releases into competitive signals.

Clinical Trials

This AI Model automatically flags references to trials, making it easier to monitor this highly regulated and impactful phase of development. For analysts focused on the healthcare or biotech sectors, tracking clinical trials provides insights into where competitors are investing, what treatments are in development, and how soon innovations might reach the market.

In this example, we’re using Ask AI across multiple articles to extract a table tracking the recent critical trials for cardiovascular diseases with the prompt:

Build a table tracking the recent clinical trials. Include the name of the drug manufacturer, the phase of trial, the result, and the potential impact

New Patents

By identifying and surfacing new patent filings, you get to track competitor innovation, assess potential IP conflicts, and uncover opportunities in a given market. New patents signal formal claims of innovation and are often early indicators of strategic investment in a technology. They offer a unique window into a company's R&D focus and long-term plans.

In this example, we’re using Ask AI on a single article to extract more details about Xiaomi’s solid-state battery reveal, using the simple prompt:

What details did Xiaomi reveal about its solid-state battery patent?

New Proof of Concepts

Our new Proof of Concept (PoC) AI Model identifies instances where a company demonstrates the feasibility of a new idea, technology, or approach. Proofs of concept are valuable signals for market intelligence analysts because they indicate a shift from theoretical development to practical validation. Flagging these moments helps spot early-stage innovations that could evolve into full-scale products or services.

Once you’ve built an AI Feed using the Proof of Concept AI Model (or any of the other models mentioned in this article), click on the Top Stories tab to quickly spot the main stories related to your search.

Type Certification

This AI Model flags instances where a company or product receives type certification—an official validation that a product meets regulatory or technical standards, especially in sectors like aerospace, automotive, or energy. For analysts, these certifications are key milestones that signal readiness for market entry or compliance with industry standards. Tracking them helps assess maturity and competitiveness within regulated markets.

Pilot Project

Our Pilot Project AI Model identifies when organizations launch small-scale, experimental implementations of a product, service, or technology in a real-world setting. For analysts, pilot projects are strong indicators of market testing and operational viability. Monitoring these efforts can reveal which innovations are gaining traction, where companies are deploying them, and how they are being received.

You can select the Insights Tab in your AI Feed to understand how the number of pilot projects in your industry has evolved, as well as the key companies, technologies, and sustainability topics most mentioned within the feed.

Use these these nine AI Models to capture early competitive signals.
