Germany’s economy minister said her country should rethink its opposition to nuclear energy, saying it leaves Europe’s biggest economy vulnerable to fossil fuel price swings.

Her remarks to the Financial Times are one of a number by senior officials scrambling to address the energy upheaval caused by the Iran war, which has sent oil and gas prices soaring.

Many such as Japan, the Philippines, and South Korea have upped their dependence on coal, the dirtiest of the fossil fuels, in the short-term, even as several nations are rushing to install greener sources of power, including nuclear and solar, in order to shore up their long-run energy independence.
