The star of the show has to be the newly released Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 16c/32t processor with the 3D cache on both CCDs. Our review noted it’s around 4% faster in multi-threaded performance than the 9950X3D and delivers double-digit improvements in specialized workloads. It did use more power in turn. It looks the part of a premium motherboard and is proud to be the focal point of your new AM5 build, but it has the chops to push any processor to the limit. The 2-DIMM configuration supports higher memory speeds (up to DDR5-9600 MT/s), though it limits total capacity to 128GB (which most people have no problem fitting). Specs-wise, you get five M.2 sockets (two PCIe 5.0) and four SATA ports, a flagship-class audio solution with integrated amplifier, fast networking with Wi-Fi 7 and 5 GbE, and plenty of connectivity on the rear IO (dual USB4 Type-C ports along with seven Type-A), and a robust power solution to easily power the 9950X3D2 when overclocked. Your only limit with this monster will be cooling.
Next, Corsair’s Vengeance 32GB (2x16GB) DRR5-6400 CL36 RAM kit is currently available on Newegg for nearly $470 when bought separately. This black kit matches the Apex motherboard and sports a frosted RGB light bar that runs the length of the sticks, drawing attention inside your case. Or, if RGB lighting isn’t your thing and you prefer a stealthy appearance, you can also disable it.
