Iraq’s Oil Ministry is working to restore crude oil production to previous levels within two months after output fell sharply due to the US-Israel war on Iran, according to ministry spokesman Salim Farhoud, News.Az reports, citing Al Jazeera.
Iraqi oil production dropped by around 60 percent as a result of the conflict, falling to 1.3 million barrels per day from 3.3 million barrels per day before the war began.
Farhoud said there is no exact timetable for exports to return to earlier levels, explaining that recovery depends on the condition of reservoirs and production capacity at different oil fields.
He added that operating companies have already started efforts to restore output.
“It is possible that we will return within one to two months to the previous production levels, which exceed three million barrels per day from the southern fields,” Farhoud said.
Iraq remains one of the world’s largest oil producers and exporters, with official figures estimating its proven oil reserves at 145 billion barrels.
