China’s economy is showing signs of growing imbalance, as consumer demand weakened while industrial production continued to expand, News.Az reports.
Retail sales fell by 0.6% in May, marking the first decline since December 2022. The drop highlights persistent weakness in domestic consumption, despite government efforts to support household spending and restore confidence.
At the same time, industrial production increased by 4.5%, showing that China’s manufacturing and export-oriented sectors remain more resilient than the consumer side of the economy.
The figures point to a widening gap between China’s industrial strength and weak domestic demand.
Analysts say this imbalance could increase pressure on Beijing to introduce additional support measures aimed at boosting consumption and stabilizing economic growth.
