THE PSNI HAVE extradited a man from Belfast to Denmark to stand trial for murder.
The man is wanted in Denmark to stand trial for murder and possession of a firearm in relation to an incident in the Aarhus area of Denmark on 8 March 2022.
The man, aged 33, was arrested by PSNI officers in south Belfast on 16 September 2024 on foot of a Danish extradition warrant.
He had been held in prison since his arrest and, following work between the PSNI’s international policing unit and Danish police, he was today returned to Denmark.
The PSNI said the man had tried to hide in Northern Ireland using a false identity but that he was “identified, located, arrested and now extradited to face justice”.
A PSNI spokesperson said today’s extradition will “no doubt be a significant step forward in this murder investigation”.
“Our message is clear,” added the spokesperson.
“Northern Ireland is not a safe haven for any wanted person trying to avoid arrest and the consequences of their previous actions.
“We will relentlessly pursue all those attempting to evade justice.”
