"Beidh reifreann neamhspleachais ag an Bhreatain Bheag - is iad na daoine a chinnfidh cathain"

Tír agus teanga

Ba mhaith le Céad Aire na Breataine Bige ‘athdhearadh a dhéanamh ar na caidrimh idir na naisiúin sna h-oileáin seo’, duirt sé in agallamh le The Journal.

(This article is produced by our Gaeltacht team. You can read an English version of this piece here)

NÍL AON AMHRAS ar Chéad Aire na Breataine Bige, Rhun Ap Iorwerth, go mbeidh reifreann faoi neamhspleáchas na tíre sin ach thug sé le fios in agallamh le The Journal, nach raibh aon suim aige i rudaí a bhriseadh suas.

Le linn don gceannaire ar Phlaid Cymru bheith i mBaile Átha Cliath ar an gCéadaoin rinne sé agallamh le The Journal faoi cheisteanna a bhain le neamhspleáchas, a dhearcadh féin i dtaobh an chíor thuathail i Sráid Downing agus cúrsaí teanga.

“Creidimse i dtógáil suas na Breataine Bige agus ní theastaíonn uaim go dtarlódh seo i slí a fhágann an Bhreatain Bheag léi féin – ba mhaith liom go mbeadh rath uirthi in éineacht le páirtithe eile agus sin an fáth go bhfuil sé chomh tábhachtach dom bheith anseo in Éirinn.

“Tá sé chomh simplí le seo domsa, is athdhearadh é ar an gcaidreamh idir na náisiúin sna hoileáin seo.”

In Éirinn tá sprioc de 2030 le haghaidh reifreann neamhspleáchais luaite go minic ag Sinn Féin agus le déanaí d’fhógair an Tánaiste, Simon Harris, go raibh Fine Gael ag obair ar phlean faoin gceist a bheadh le foilsiú roimh dheireadh na bliana.

Ní raibh fonn ar an gcéad aire béim a leagadh ar cén uair a bheadh reifreann neamhspleáchais ar a thaobh de Mhuir na hÉireann.

“Is faoi mhuintir na Breataine Bige atá sé,” dúirt sé.

“Is é mo chúram ná iad a threorú chun comhrá a bheith acu mar gheall ar chomh hard is atá ár n-uaillmhian.

“Tá a fhios agam cá bhfuil m’uaillmhian agus teastaíonn uaim an Bhreatain Bheag a threorú chun bheith inchurtha leis an uaillmhian sin, bheith muiníneach asainn féin agus aghaidh a thabhairt ar na ceisteanna dúshlánacha.”

Threoraigh ceannaire Plaid Cymru a pháirtí go bua stairiúil sna toghcháin Senedd i mí na Bealtaine agus cé gur rialtas mionlaigh é, tá sé anois socair ina ról nua.

Ach níl an cur amú i Londain, mar a thugann sé air, agus míshocracht i réim anois i Sráid Downing tar éis fógra Keir Starmer go raibh sé ag éirí as ag tús na seachtaine. Go luath beidh an seachtú phríomhaire ag an Ríocht Aontaithe ó vótáil an tír sin ar son na Breatimeachta i 2016.

Is “tréimhse d’fhíoréiginnteacht agus míshocracht” é agus d’admhaigh sé go raibh sé buartha.

“Tá rialtas againn anois sa Bhreatain Bheag atá socair, atá uaillmhianach agus ag féachaint chun tosaigh agus ceapaim go bhfeiceann daoine chomh héagsúil is atá sé sin ón mhíshocracht sa Ríocht Aontaithe – féach anois, is féidir linn rialtas a dhéanamh sa Bhreatain Bheag agus é a dhéanamh go maith.

“Is é an imní is mó atá agam faoi láthair ná go bhfuilimid ag cailliúint ama gach lá mar nach féidir linn caidreamh dearfach a bheith idir Chéad Aire na Breataine Bige agus Príomhaire na Ríochta Aontaithe.

“Mar gheall ar an gcíor thuathail i Westminster, ciallaíonn sin nach féidir liom an chur i láthair a dhéanamh i mbealaí éagsúla maidir le maoiniú agus cumhacht atá de dhíth chun ár dtodhchaí a thógáil.”

Léirigh sé dóchas go socródh cúrsaí i Westminster le go mbeadh deis aige leanúint ag cloí lena mhionn seasamh ar son muintir na Breataine Bige.

Gníomhaithe teanga iad tuismitheoirí Ap Iorwerth agus thosaigh sé a shaol phoiblí mar ghníomhaí teanga é féin. Anuas ar sin is páirtí é Plaid Cymru atá ina chliabhán do ghníomhaithe teanga agus mar sin tá tábhacht lárnach ag an Bhreatnais i gclár oibre a rialtais.

“Go gonta agus go simplí, tá sé ar fad faoin Bhreatain Bheag agus tá an teanga ina cuid lárnach den Bhreatain Bheag – is ionann iad.

“Tá sí ag croí cé hiad sinn mar náisiún agus, dá bhrí sin, cé hiad sinn mar pháirtí.”

Bhí ceisteanna a bhain le teanga, cultúr agus oidhreacht ar chlár oibre chruinniú Fhóram na hÉireann agus na Breataine Bige ag Teach Uíbh Eachaidh ar an gCéadaoin ach bhí go leor ábhar eile faoi chaibidil freisin, ábhair ar nós cúrsaí polaitiúla agus oifigiúla, cúrsaí fuinnimh agus inmharthanachta, eacnamaíocht agus trádáil is go leor eile.

I gcomhráiteas eisithe in ainm Helen McEntee, an tAire Gnóthaí Eachtracha agus Cosanta, agus Rhun Ap Iorwerth, Céad Aire Cymru, d’aontaigh an dá rialtas oibriú le chéile chun suimeanna ar leas leo araon a chur chun cinn ar mhaithe le pobail na hÉireann agus na Breataine Bige.
