Céimeanna cinnte á dtógáil chun Ceathrú Ghaeilge Bhaile Átha Cliath a chur i gcrích

Gaeltacht sa Phríomhchathair

Tá Ceathru Ghaeilge – nó Gaeltacht neamh thraidisiunta – a fhorbairt i lár Bhaile Átha Cliath agus an tseachtain seo fógraíodh go bhfuil stiurthóir á lorg chun tacú leis an bhforbairt.

(This article is produced by our Gaeltacht team. You can read an English version of this piece here)

BEIDH AR AN duine a cheapfar le bheith ina stiúrthóir ar Cheathrú Ghaeilge Bhaile Átha Cliath bheith ag obair chun an Ghaeilge a dhaingniú mar phríomhtheanga sa cheantar timpeall ar Shráid Fhearchair i lár na cathrach.

Sin go hachomair an cur síos atá ar fhógra earcaíochta atá á scaipeadh an tseachtain seo chun an stiúrthóir a aimsiú don togra píolótach seo agus tá na fostóirí, príomh ghrúpa abhcóideachta na teanga in Éirinn, Conradh na Gaeilge, ag obair i bpáirt le Comhairle Cathrach Bhaile Átha Cliath agus Bord Oideachais is Oiliúna Chathair Átha Cliath ar an tionscnamh seo.

Is é an ceantar timpeall ar Shráid Fhearchair, Sráid Camden agus Sráid Synge agus a shíneann chomh fada leis an gCeolárас Náisiúnta atá i gceist leis an gCeathrú Ghaeilge – togra atá luaite go sonrach i bPlean Forbartha Chomhairle Cathrach Bhaile Átha Cliath 2022-28.

Cuimsíonn an ceantar an gaelscoil atá oscailte i Sráid Synge agus beidh an gaelcholáiste atá á bheartú ar an gcampas sin san áireamh freisin.

Séard a chiallaíonn ‘Ceathrú Ghaeilge’ ná limistéir sa chathair ina mbeadh an Ghaeilge á gcur chun cínn agus go leor eagrais Ghaeilge, gaelscoileanna is gnóanna le cainteoirí Ghaeilge ag obair iontu.  D’fhéadfaí a rá gur Gaeltacht i gcoimhthéasc cathrach atá ann nach cuid é den nGaeltacht traidisiúnta.

Deirtear i gCaibidil 12 go bhfuil sé mar chuspóir ag an gComhairle Cathrach ceathrú Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn agus an rangú sin a lorg don ceantar i ndeisceart na cathrach atá fócasaite timpeall ar Shráid Fhearchair mar ‘ghréasán Gaeilge’.

Is cuspóir é freisin tacú le deiseanna a fhiosrú maidir le húsáid níos mó a bhaint as an nGaeilge laistigh de rogha de shráidbhailte uirbeacha sa chathair.

Ag croí an togra seo tá athfhorbairt cheannaras stairiúil Chonradh na Gaeilge ar Shráid Fhearchair – togra a ghlacfaidh trí bliana eile agus na milliúin Euro chun é a chríochnú.

I measc na n-áiseanna nua a bheidh ann in Uimhir 6 beidh caifelann, ionad ilúsáide, amharclann, agus neart eile.

Cé go gcuirfidh Gaeil Bhaile Átha Cliath agus ar fud na tíre fáilte roimhe seo, ní hé seo ach cuid den togra atá beartaithe le Ceathrú Ghaeilge Bhaile Átha Cliath, mar a mhíníonn Ard-Rúnaí Chonradh na Gaeilge, Julian de Spáinn.

“Bhí sé i gcónaí i gceist againn rud éigean a dhéanamh agus go mbeadh rochtain i bhfad níos leithne ar an nGaeilge sa cheantar ná díreach Uimhir 6,” dúirt sé.

Thug de Spáinn le fios go raibh grúpaí eile ag tacú leis an mbeartas freisin -leithéidí Coláiste na Tríonóide agus Oifig na nOibreacha Poiblí – agus go raibh grúpa oibre ag teacht le chéile go rialta chun an togra a chur i gcrích.

Ceathrú Gaeltachta á forbairt in iarthar na cathrach i mBéal Feirste le tamall de bhlianta agus go leor dul chun cinn déanta agus obair mhaith freisin déanta sa Bhreatain Bheag, agus tá ionadaithe ón ngrúpa oibre i mBaile Átha Cliath tar éis bheith ar chuairt ann chun ceachtanna a fhoghlaim.

“Táimid ag iarraidh an rud seo a fhorbairt ar bhonn go mbeidh sé mar eiseamláir don chuid eile den tír nuair a bheidh sé forbartha,” dúirt sé agus é ag admháil go raibh sé sceitimíneach faoin méid a raibh bainte amach agus atá á dhéanamh faoi láthair.

Dúirt sé go mbeadh Uimhir 6 Sráid Fhearchair críochnaithe laistigh de thrí bliana agus go raibh go leor céimeanna eile sa tionscadal le baint amach, cé go raibh obair mhaith déanta ar aghaidh an fhoirgnimh.

Tá an chuid is mó den obair anois le déanamh agus an foirgneamh ar chúl a athchóiriú.

Cé go mbeidh Uimhir 6 ag croí na Ceathrú Ghaeilge, is cinnte go bhfuil go leor oibre eile ar bun chun éiceachóras Gaelach a thógáil sa cheantar timpeall ar an bhfoirgneamh stairiúil agus is iad Gaeilge 365, togra de chuid na Comhairle Cathrach.

Dáithí de Buitléar is ea stiúrthóir Gaeilge 365 agus tá go leor oibre déanta ag an togra chun breis beochta a chur sa teanga – agus tacaíocht a thabhairt di – sa phríomhchathair.

Sa cheantar áirithe seo, áfach, tá infheistíocht déanta ag an Stát ann le stáisiúin ghardaí, páirceanna, an Músaem Litríochta agus an Ceolárаs Náisiúnta. “Ceann de na rudaí atá dearfach faoi sin ná de réir mar a mhéadaíonn líon na ndaoine le Gaeilge atá ag teacht isteach sa státchóras, feicimíd an taobh chultúrtha ag forbairt ar Shráid Fhearchair agus ar an ngaelchampas (Sráid Synge) go nádúrtha agus go mbeadh na mílte daoine ag teacht isteach sa cheantar agus iad ag labhairt Gaeilge — bíodh sé i gcomhair oibre, cúrsaí sóisialta agus eile.”

Screenshot 2026-05-29 at 13.06.51 Tá ag éirí go geal leis an gcumann lán Ghaeilge, Na Gaeil Óga CLG, atá lonnaithe in iarthar Bhaile Átha Cliath. Na Gaeil Óga Na Gaeil Óga

Tá moill curtha ar fhorbairt Ghaelcholáiste Synge ach tuigtear go mbeidh sé ag oscailt i mí Mheán Fhómhair i seomraí atá sa bhunscoil láimh le Meánscoil na mBraithre Críostaí Sráid Synge, meánscoil atá sé ráite ag an Roinn Oideachais go n-íompófar ina mheánscoil lán Ghaeilge.

Dúirt De Buitléar go raibh athrú mór tagtha ar chúrsaí sa phríomhchathair ó bhog sé ann 15 bliana ó shin. An uair sin bheadh daoine ag dul isteach go Club an Chonartha le haghaidh imeachtaí sóisialta ag an deireadh seachtaine.

“Anois an rud a bhfeiceann muid ná go bhfuil iliomad pobail Gaeilge fud fad an chontae agus go bhfuil – is dócha le fás an Ghaeloideachais le 30/40 bliain anuas – i gcuid mhaith de na bruachbhailte móra anois timpeall ar Bhaile Átha Cliath, áiteanna cosúil le Sord Leamhcáin.”

Dúirt sé go raibh obair iontach déanta ag leithéidí Na Gaeil Óga, an club Cumann Lúthchleas Gael in iarthar na cathrach, agus thug sé suntas freisin don togra Foraois atá ag bunú cumainn óige in áiteanna ar nós Domhnach Míde. Dar leis, is léiriú an fhás atá ar líon na nGaeilgeoirí agus na n-imeachtaí ar an obair iontach atá déanta ag gaelscoileanna sa chathair is sa chontae is ar fud na tíre le daoine óga le Gaeilge ag teacht chun a bheith ag staidéar agus ag obair sa phríomhchathair.

Le déanaí, ag an Mol Digiteach sa chathair, seoladh togra, Todhchaí, a thacaíonn le bunaitheoirí gnó agus iad ag cur tús le fiontair agus á scálú trí Ghaeilge pé áit ina bhfuil siad sa tír, agus tá súil go mbeidh roinnt de na gnólachtaí Gaelacha seo lonnaithe i gCeathrú Ghaeilge nua na príomhchathrach.

Thagair sé freisin don obair atá ar bun ag Baile Átha Cliath le Gaeilge chun miondíoltóirí a spreagadh le Gaeilge a úsáid agus thug sé le fios go raibh luach breise gnó €18,000 á shaothrú ag siopaí, bialanna agus caiféanna go raibh sé amuigh orthu go raibh Gaeilge ag baill foirne ann agus go bhféadfaí gnó a dhéanamh ann trí Ghaeilge.

“Luíonn sé le ciall má tá cainteoir Gaeilge ag siúl thar thrí chaifé agus tuigeann siad go bhfuil baill foirne le Gaeilge i gceann amháin acu, go roghnódh siad an ceann sin,” dúirt De Buitléar.

Fiú is go bhfuil grá agus meas don nGaeilge aistí féin, is cinnte gur spreagadh breise é an gnó nua agus an t-ioncam méadaithe a fhéadfadh sí a mhealladh d’aon siopa nó caifé.

Tá an réabhlóid chiúin seo faoi lán sheol agus ag leanúint léi. Tá tús maith curtha leis an obair chun aisling Cheathrú Ghaeilge Bhaile Átha Cliath a fhíorú ina beatha i lár na cathrach.

“Ní tarlóidh sé ar oíche ach táimid ag cruthú an spáis i gcroílár phríomhchathrach na hÉireann inar féidir le daoine – bíodh sé gur as Baile Átha Cliath iad, nó gur daoine iad ón nGaeltacht nó ón iasacht – más maith leo, go gcloisfidh siad an Ghaeilge in úsáid anseo mar theanga phobail, teanga tráchtála, go dtuigeann siad go bhfuil ceantar ar leith ar féidir leo dul ann agus go bhfuil eolas acu go gcloisfidh siad an Ghaeilge, go bhfeicfidh siad an Ghaeilge agus gur leo í a úsáid,” dúirt De Buitléar.

Tá an comórtas le haghaidh stiúrthóir a earcú ar an gCeathrú Ghaeilge oscailte go dtí 22 Meitheamh.
