PASCHAL DONOHOE SAYS he used to think he was going to be a writer, before his politics career took off.

The former finance minister dipped his toe in, writing book reviews for the Irish Times and short stories in his 20s. But he never wrote a book.

Many people fancy themselves a writer, or believe they’re sitting on a great idea that they just haven’t put on the page.
