The must-have accessories for every groom on their wedding day

author

For the fashion-forward groom, it’s all about finding the right accessories to bring your wedding suit to the next level. Creative director and stylist Lawson Mpame shares the must-have trends and classic picks every man needs for his big day.

For a long time, weddings have always been just for the bride. It’s her show, and men have always taken a step back to let her soak in the big day. This also meant that, for men, dressing for their wedding day was something of an afterthought – get yourself and your groomsmen some basic suits, job done. Thankfully, this has changed over the years, and men have started treating the big day as their own too, opting for sleek tuxedos for the occasion, with some even choosing bespoke and made-to-measure. Well-tailored suits are now the norm at every wedding, and not showing up dressed accordingly while standing next to your gorgeous bride-to-be, who has put maximum effort into the day, is a major faux pas.

In 2026, this trend has been taken up another notch, with men now incorporating accessories to elevate their wedding suits. From brooches, watches, and rings to sunglasses, there has been a massive shift, and I’m here for it. As far as I can tell, effort is a sexy thing, and I think your partner wants to see you put the same level of effort into your outfit as they put into theirs. It’s not just his or her day. It’s your day together, and you need to look the part.

Here are my top must-have accessories that I believe every man should wear for his wedding, in no particular order.

Vintage brooches

First up, we have vintage brooches. This is a trend I’m loving seeing everywhere and one I’m glad has made its way into weddings. They are super regal, and you can play around with sizes, colours, and textures to create a look that almost screams royalty. Less is more with these, but by all means, don’t be afraid to make a statement. Nestled on a lapel, it’s a stunning accessory that oozes elegance.

These can range from as little as €50 to well into the thousands, depending on whether you go for something vintage with real gemstones and gold. This is a beautiful, affordable option from Audras Brooches for €50.

If you want to spend a bit more, you can opt for this Victorian 14K Yellow Gold and Enamel Brooch from Walton’s Jewellers, which will set you back €895.

Or, if you are a big spender and want something even more standout, you can go for this beautiful piece by my favourite designer, Sam Lafford, which comes in at a lovely €8,600. The choices are endless when it comes to what you can get and how you style it. The world is your oyster, and you can dress however you want.

Signet rings

Next up is my favourite accessory, the signet ring. Yes, you will be getting a ring on your big day, but why not get yourself something extra sentimental to mark the occasion? Signets are an elegant, regal accessory, and your options here are endless. You can keep it classic and plain, engrave your initials alongside your partner’s, add a family crest, or incorporate stones. Again, the permutations are endless. I personally prefer going for a stone, almost like an engagement ring for myself, before getting the wedding band.

This gorgeous black diamond signet from The Diamond Expert is a standout at €3,000. It really is the price of an engagement ring. If you want something a little more affordable, you can opt for this gorgeous silver signet with a ruby from Cosmic Boulevard starting from €270.

Statement sunglasses

Another trend that I’m loving is the sunglasses trend, but not just your bog-standard sunglasses. Statement pairs with lightly tinted or almost clear lenses. These are great for adding a bit of edge and cool to your look, and they pair beautifully with a tux. I mean, you can never go wrong with sunnies, especially if it’s a destination wedding and the sun is out.

No one wants to see you squinting all day. Get the sunglasses. The lightly tinted ones are even better because you can actually see your guests properly and they can still see your eyes too. It gives the illusion that you’re wearing glasses with a tint rather than full sunglasses.

Les Specs do an incredible range that I love. Quay is another sunglasses brand that does an incredible range too, and you can never go wrong with Tom Ford.

Chains and cufflinks

Next up: chains. It used to be pocket watches, but now that’s changed to chains, and I’m here for it. Don’t worry, we’ll get to timepieces soon. Like the brooch, chains come in many different styles and price points. You can go super regal and bold with something draped across your jacket from lapel to lapel like this.

This is a standout for me, though it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, so there are also more understated options available, such as this one.

Another key must-have is cufflinks. A dress shirt with your tuxedo on your wedding day is a MUST, no questions asked. Not wearing cufflinks is a major faux pas and will most definitely earn you a few questionable looks from your guests. Whether you opt for a single cuff or a double cuff shirt, both require cufflinks. No exceptions. It’s non-negotiable and one of those small details that can elevate your entire look. From timeless classics to something a little more bold and unexpected, these and these are my favourite cufflinks for your wedding day.

These cufflinks from Aspinal are a unique choice. The mother-of-pearl detailing is something you don’t often see in cufflinks, offering a subtle elegance that stands out without being overly flashy. They strike the perfect balance between classic and distinctive, making them an excellent choice for a wedding day look.

You can also keep it quite classic and just go for monogramming your initials for the big day.

A timeless timepiece

Lastly, but by no means least, a good timepiece. Need I even make a case for a proper dress watch with a tux on your wedding day? A dress watch with black tie is a must, and honestly, it’s an unspoken rule.

Personally, I would go for the Reverso from Jaeger-LeCoultre, either the Duoface or Monoface, and get your special day engraved on the back. It’s such an elegant addition to your wedding attire and means you can keep track of the time too. Boy math.

These are my go-to accessories for the gents out there on their big day. Put effort into your wedding day. It’s just as much your day as it is your partner’s.
