Lauren Maguire: A week in my wardrobe

author

Lauren Maguire is a Dublin-based stylist whose approach to fashion is the kind that makes getting dressed look easy. Mixing high and low with ease, she creates chic, wearable outfits rooted in comfort, simplicity and understated cool. Here is a week in her wardrobe.

MONDAY

I like to start the week off wearing something simple and comfortable. If I’m not out working on a shoot, I’m usually catching up on emails from the weekend and doing the less glamorous, admin side of being a stylist. Today’s look captures my own personal style perfectly, as you’ll learn from reading this, I reach for comfort, simplicity and versatility. I’ve really been enjoying styling capris this season. I recently picked up this pair in Dunnes. I styled them with a simple tank top from Zara and carried a black H&M cardigan over my shoulders. My go-to shoe coming into the warmer weather is a ballet flat. I love these black ones from Penneys. With a minimal outfit like this, I love to add a fun bag to add some character. My pre-loved Louis Vuitton Papillon 26 is from an amazing Irish luxury reseller, Luxselle. Adding a bag you love can make any outfit special!

TUESDAY

On Tuesday, I had a shoot in Dublin and a personal shopping appointment afterwards. I like to be comfortable for work, especially for a day of shopping with clients. If I had to pick one favourite piece in my wardrobe, it would be this COS clean-cut tee. I went for a monochrome look today, pairing my t-shirt with these white, Bermuda, denim shorts from ASOS. I added a vintage black belt to break up the white base. Again, my Penneys ballet flats were the obvious choice for this look. I recently found this Zadig et Voltaire, slouchy, city bag on Vinted, and I haven’t put it down since! My sunglasses are French Connection and have been a part of almost every one of my outfits over the last few years. They are the perfect timeless shape for everyday.

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday was a work-from-home day, working with some virtual styling clients and running errands. On days like this, I like to be comfortable but still feel put together and ready to leave the house. I styled these Adidas cropped trousers from Vinted with a simple Zara tank top and surprise, surprise… my Penneys ballet flats. If you can’t tell by now, when I find something that works, I don’t try to fix it. My Penneys ballet flats, my Zadig et Voltaire bag, and my French Connection sunglasses are the perfect trio to accessorise any outfit. These trousers are perfect for being comfortable but still wanting to feel cool and intentional. I already know they will be worn out by the end of summer!

THURSDAY

Thursday was a travel day. I was up at 3 am to head to the South of France, and I was so excited to put on this outfit. This matching set is from an incredible Irish brand, Rogue and Clover. I was so lucky to receive this before the launch date, as it’s a brand I work with a lot. It literally felt like I was in my pyjamas, but looked so polished on the outside. This is another work-from-home outfit that I often reach for. I love the subtle stripe detail on the hem. I would usually wear my Birkenstock Boston clogs on a flight, but I knew I was going to be walking around the city, so I went with my trusty New Balance 530 runners. My Zadig et Voltaire bag, once again, was the perfect carry-on bag. Small, but you can still fit so much in it.

FRIDAY

We spent our first day relaxing, getting lunch, and looking around the gorgeous boutiques and vintage shops in the city of Carcassonne. I styled this classy, simple outfit around my Samsøe Samsøe blazer I picked up on Vinted. I paired it with this linen shirt from H&M and a DIY pair of denim shorts, made from an old pair of jeans I had. My Longchamp Le Pliage bag is another favourite travel bag of mine. Such a great size for someone who often travels and doesn’t want to check in a suitcase. I could do a week-long holiday with just my Longchamp! A cream blazer is such a timeless piece to have in your wardrobe. Wear it casually like this, with a crisp white shirt and denim, or dress it up with a white mini dress and heels.

SATURDAY

On Saturday, we had a few drinks by the pool and headed out for dinner in the city. I had an Andrea Sachs moment in this floral mini dress, it might not be ‘groundbreaking’, but florals are always going to be in for spring/summer in my opinion. I picked up this dress in H&M while I was here (H&M in France is so much better than at home), and I paired it with these white flip-flop heels from my sister’s wardrobe. This is probably the most colourful you’ll ever see me, but what better time than on holiday! This dress felt like something I would have loved when I was 5 or 6, but that’s what made me reach for it, and I loved wearing it!

SUNDAY

Being on a sun holiday is the perfect excuse to get out your little summer dresses you haven’t seen in months. Sunday was spent exploring the city, so I wanted to be comfortable but still dressy. This is a dress I always bring with me. I picked it up here in a French boutique a few years ago, and I still reach for it. A simple white dress is a holiday staple for me. It’s so easy to dress up for a night out, or keep simple with a fun pair of ballet flats and a cardigan like this for daytime. I’ve been loving adding a colourful shoe to a simple outfit. It’s such an easy way to add some character while still keeping with my usual, minimal vibe. This pink pair I picked up in Penneys while I was working in Belfast a few weeks ago. My pink cardigan is from ZARA, as well as my brown shoulder bag. I loved this outfit and felt so girly and chic. Perfect for exploring the South of France.
