Let’s call a spade a spade, it’s hard to look chic in the lashing rain — but that won’t stop us from trying. Here are the raincoats keeping the team warm and dry.

This year for Christmas, I got this RAINS spill rain jacket and I am obsessed with it. It has great pockets, which is a huge essential for me, and it’s also waterproof. RAINS is such a good, reliable brand and I am delighted with this one. They also have matching rain trousers, which I think will be perfect again for festival season — or dare I say fashion week!

I got this super cute windbreaker before Christmas and I am obsessed! It’s from this small brand in the UK called Ginny & Me, and it’s so lightweight! They do loads of different prints, I just love the sleeves on this one, and they’re so different to your normal black raincoats. Super handy for hikes too!

I’m not saying I’m better than everyone else but I do own the Damson Madder shower-proof raincoat in navy check, so not only am I protected from the rain, I am also looking exceptionally cool while doing so. It’s an oversized fit with big balloon sleeves so you can fit a woolly jumper underneath, plus has a heap of handy little drawstring fastenings so you can adjust it, with a tie on the hood for extra rain cover, a tie around the end of the coat to modify the shape plus a tie on the waist for extra waist snatching. If every cool girl wearing it on your feeds wasn’t enough to influence you, maybe this will; it also has many, many well-placed pockets.

In October last year, I bought a burgundy version of the RAINS String W Jacket on ASOS. It has since become one of my most used items in my wardrobe. It’s so chic, so easy to style, lightweight, and most importantly, keeps me dry. The only slight downside is the length. I’d love one slightly longer for those days when the rain is torrential. I love the silhouette and belt detail on the A-Line Longer W Jacket, also from RAINS. The length is exactly what I am missing in my life!

I am a disaster when it comes to raincoats, and more often than not, I choose style over functionality. You would think after 27 years of living in Ireland that I would have invested in one by now, but no, I love to act shocked every single time I go out and get soaked in the torrential rain without a) a good raincoat and b) an umbrella.
I do think it’s time I invest in a really good (and waterproof!) rain jacket. Every time I see our chic beauty editor Holly in this Damson Madder jacket, I want to rob it from the office and never give it back. I have notifications on for when this comes back in stock. The drawstring waist, love!
Spanish brand, Oysho, always has the most gorgeous chic athleisure and despite the rain not being quite as common over there, they know how to do a good rain jacket. I have my eyes on this one here, which is also fleece-lined for the cold!
I adore long coats, this one from Taippe is high on the wishlist. For a more heavyweight, waterproof trench however, Adanola have this padded trench-style jacket that would definitely keep us warm and dry in this weather!

My Stutterheim raincoat is easily my most complimented piece of clothing. The label on the inner pocket has been photographed more times than I can count. I bought it in their sale in 2022 and it’s still keeping me bone dry despite the fact that I essentially live in it with this west of Ireland weather. I’m tall (5 9″) and the long raincoat is perfect, hitting me right at mid-calf, and in the winter I layer it up with a collarless Uniqlo puffy liner coat (they only have it as a jacket at the moment but they usually have a knee-length one).

Thanks to a puppy who considers daily walks non-negotiable, I’ve found myself repeatedly exposed to the full force of the Irish elements recently. Rain, wind, and everything in between have made it abundantly clear that my current collection of jackets simply isn’t fit for purpose. It feels like a long-overdue moment to invest in outerwear that truly performs. This parka from RAINS has firmly caught my eye, boasting full waterproof and windproof credentials while still managing to look chic.

I have two trusty raincoats, one for wet work days and another that’s fit to battle the elements on a rainy dog walk. The first is a men’s car coat from Jigsaw. They don’t actually do menswear anymore, but it’s quite similar to this current one, except mine is beige and has no hood. Its water-repellent finish and oversized shape keeps me dry while still looking smart. Plus, I like a roomy fit so I can fit chunky jumpers underneath.
The other is a North Face jacket, similar to this one. Completely waterproof (not like those jackets that only repel water for a while), while being breathable so you don’t get sweaty, and windproof, it does everything you want a raincoat to. Mine has also been on the go for five years and doesn’t show any signs of losing its waterproof properties, so it’s definitely worth the investment.

Given how relentless the rain and wind have been this January, I’ve been relying heavily on my RAINS Long Jacket. It’s lightweight, breathable and folds down small enough to slip into my work bag. The hood has a built-in cap to keep the rain off your face and the adjustable snap cuffs make it easy to get a snug, comfortable fit.

I’ve been on the hunt for a new raincoat, and Next have some great sales on at the moment. I love this Joules Holkham Gingham coat – it’s very chic and easy to pair with any outfit. Or, for a more fun colour, this berry red trench coat is a great option – it’s shower resistant and comes in petite sizes for us shorter gals.
