A stylist’s guide to silk scarves, this season’s ultimate styling hero

author

Silk scarves are no longer reserved for classic neckwear, writes contributing fashion editor Sinéad Keenan. They’re now being styled as tops, belts, hair accessories and even layered over tailoring to introduce colour and print.

If there’s one clear message coming out of the fashion world as we step into Spring/Summer 2026, it’s this… joyful, expressive dressing is firmly back. After several seasons dominated by pared-back minimalism and tonal basics, designers are reintroducing personality into the everyday wardrobe through texture, playful proportions, confident colour and statement accessories.

The key difference this time around is wearability. While the runways may have embraced drama, the mood for SS26 is about translating those ideas into pieces that feel effortless, versatile and genuinely useful in a real wardrobe. From sculptural dresses and elevated denim to expressive accessories and sunshine-ready neutrals, this season is about curating standout pieces that feel like you. Pieces that are elevated yet easy and endlessly adaptable.

One of the most versatile accessories returning to the spotlight this season is the silk scarf. Scarves are no longer reserved for classic neckwear. They’re now being styled as tops, belts, hair accessories and even layered over tailoring to introduce colour and print. If you want to make your blazer feel a little more feminine, tie a scarf around your shoulders as seen at Celine, or wrap a long pareo scarf over your trousers like at Dries Van Noten.

Silk print scarves appeared as colourful under-layers at Miu Miu and were also spotted throughout fashion-week street style, worn at the waist and tied as triangular apron-style belts.

The beauty of the scarf trend lies in its ability to elevate wardrobe staples. A simple white T-shirt, tailored trousers or relaxed denim instantly feels more considered when paired with a vibrant printed foulard. It’s a styling trick that editors and street style stars have embraced across fashion month, offering an easy way to refresh pieces you already own.
