The shoe trends to know for spring, according to a fashion editor

author

Spring's best footwear balances sport and elegance, writes stylist and contributing fashion editor Sinéad Keenan.

If there’s one clear message coming out of the fashion world as we step into Spring/Summer 2026, it’s this… joyful, expressive dressing is firmly back. After several seasons dominated by pared-back minimalism and tonal basics, designers are reintroducing personality into the everyday wardrobe through texture, playful proportions, confident colour and statement accessories.

The key difference this time around is wearability. While the runways may have embraced drama, the mood for SS26 is about translating those ideas into pieces that feel effortless, versatile and genuinely useful in a real wardrobe. From sculptural dresses and elevated denim to expressive accessories and sunshine-ready neutrals, this season is about curating standout pieces that feel like you. Pieces that are elevated yet easy and endlessly adaptable.

This season’s footwear story is all about contrast. On one end of the spectrum are retro-inspired trainers in neutral palettes, the kind of effortless kicks that work with tailoring, denim or dresses alike. On the other are refined, feminine options such as delicate heeled sandals at NYC luxury brands The Row and Khaite, and the desirable two-tone pump at Chanel. Also, thanks to the return of the Chloé girl’s bohemian style at the recent AW26 show, platform clogs are making a comeback.

The result is a shoe wardrobe that balances practicality with polish. Trainers and clogs anchor everyday outfits with a relaxed edge, while elegant heels and barely-there kitten sandals provide an easy transition into evening dressing.
