More than 140 Cambridge researchers will share their efforts to tackle the climate and biodiversity crises at the inaugural Cambridge Climate & Nature Research Showcase on Friday.

The challenges facing us do not respect boundaries

Professor Sir John Aston

A Cambridge finale to London Climate Action Week, the Showcase offers headline talks from senior speakers at all six University Schools on what is expected to be the hottest day of the year.

There will be three-minute lightning talks, stands and posters describing research that spans the globe and covers a wide range of topics from global food security and the energy transition, to climate repair and the conservation efforts for bees.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research Professor Sir John Aston says the Showcase is important because it highlights the importance of research and collaboration which cuts across disciplines and borders.

"The challenges facing us do not respect boundaries," Aston says.

The Showcase is an exclusive London Climate Action Week event for Cambridge staff and students at the Cavendish Laboratory's new Ray Dolby Centre.

It concludes with a public lecture and fireside chat on Planetary Health, featuring Professor Tan Sri Dr Jemilah Mahmood, Executive Director of the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health at Sunway University in Malaysia.

Professor Mahmood will be joined after her talk by Cambridge Zero Director Professor Emily Shuckburgh and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Environmental Sustainability Professor Bhaskar Vira for a fireside chat and audience questions.
