Billy Joel is (nearly) as synonymous with Madison Square Garden as the New York Knicks, and he capped his 100th residency show in 2024 with special guests Jerry Seinfeld and Sting. Fans who watched the televised concert might remember that the CBS broadcast was abruptly cut short in the middle of “Piano Man.” It was later re-aired, but the televised version was still an abridged version.
Now, there’s a way to revisit the landmark concert in full, sans broadcasting hiccup. The DVD and Blu-ray of the concert, out today, features the entire show.
The concert film is available on Blu-ray for $26 or DVD for $23, and features a 25-song tracklist.
Some of Joel’s biggest hits, including “Uptown Girl,” and “Big Shot,” are included but were cut from the original CBS broadcast and Paramount+ version. A total of 11 songs not featured in the broadcast are included on the disc, including “The Entertainer,” “Don’t Ask Me Why,” and “Allentown.” The tracklist also features performances with Sting, including “Big Man On Mulberry Street” and “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic.”
Joel has retired from performing as he deals with normal pressure hydrocephalus, a brain condition, but he took to the stage in January to perform “We Didn’t Start the Fire” and “Big Shot” with cover band Turnstiles. His daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, told The Hollywood Reporter, “He’s doing physical therapy regularly, and he’s doing great,” and added, “He’s such a trooper, so resilient and committed to being healthy and proactive. He’s a fighter.”
Billy Joel first announced the residency in 2013, with a promise to perform at the iconic venue once a month “as long as there’s demand.” And despite that humble caveat, demand never slowed. His final show, the 150th, featured Axl Rose, with the pair performing “Live and Let Die” and “Highway to Hell.”
